As we see in these scriptures, its not a woman's place to usurp a man, For Adam was created before Eve, an as it was Eve who was Deceived first by the serpent, then told the serpents lie to Adam to eat of the fruit of the Tree of Good & Evil.

Yet in Scripture we do see some exceptions where women had a special rolls like that of the position of a prophetess or Judge of Israel in the book of Judges, Esther who was used to save her people from the evil hamon, scripture still shows they showed accountability to a man, with Esther her king she was married to, with Deborah in the book of Judges it was Barak, with Ruth it was the council to where she was going to marry Boaz, even new testament shows the women who followed Jesus showed accountability to the Apostles, after Jesus was risen from the Dead.

Now Surphing also acted very quick to Judge, without getting the whole details behind the persons belief, whether it be in text or on microphone, an quick to condemn, with her lynch-mob all because of Words in Text or Said on Mic, showing she shamed the very thing scripture speaks out against, when i came into the room, they asked me if i believed in "The Trinity" by which i responded that I believed Jesus to be the Son Of God & Believe in the Godhead, by which they came up with some crazy doctrinal belief I don't even believe, without getting the full story, an they started attacking me, all because i didn't believe in there "Trinity", they then accused me of the Godhead being mine, and not mentioned in the Bible, by which i did show Scripture shows Godhead in the Bible and not Trinity, and without understanding my stance with that word, by which they started an argument over a simple little word being the "Trinity".
I never acknowledged that the Godhead was never mine to start of with in the room when they questioned me, they made asses out of themselves an Assumed it was more my word, than Gods Word, therefore setting an idol in the face of God an mocking him with there Words,Deeds & Actions.

The reason I take the Stance to believing in the Godhead, is that it's stance is more sounder according to the Word of God, by which the Word of God, in the NT States what it is by name, by name it doesn't call it "Triune or Trinity", it simply acknowledges it as The Godhead, nothing more nothing less, any thing else, isn't of God, as Christ says Mat 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Not long after they had banned me from the room, i received word that there now using the term "Triune Godhead" and acknowledged some of the things i mentioned to them as True, so banning someone who spoke the truth concerning certain subjects an showing the manipulating ways of Surphing and lynch mob.

A Day of History making as denominations lay aside their differences, unite, bring Australian flags in show of support for Australia and pray for the nation

Indigenous community was also thanked and acknowledged for “opening up” Australia

It was a day of “history making” in Melbourne after more than 4000 people turned up for the united Australia Day prayer rally at Festival Hall in West Melbourne on Australia Day today to pray for the land and view the Prime Minister's personal address to them.

Catch the Fire Ministries president Danny Nalliah, who hosted the major prayer event, said it was a day of “history making” in a never before seen meeting where denominational differences were cast aside. He said the entire place erupted into cheers after the Prime Minister's message was aired.

“Denominations as diverse as Catholic, Anglican the Salvation Army, Uniting, Pentecostal and Baptist churches and many others came together to pray about the drought, poverty, youth suicide, terrorism and protection over both soldiers and farmers,” Danny said.

“There were so many who expressed to me that they never have seen a day like this where doctrinal differences were laid aside for the benefit of the nation. Australia is facing a crisis and we as Christians have come together to storm heaven so to speak, to ask for a break in the drought,” he said.

“We also prayed against the scourge of youth suicide, the poverty many in our society face and for greater compassion for each other. Many had said they could never remember seeing such a large gathering of different denominations like this to pray for Australia.”

“It felt like a show of unity all round as the Prime Minister expressed what a force for good Christianity had been to Australia since this nation's inception,” Danny said.

“We were hearted to see everyone come together for the good of the nation and there were so many Australian flags. We also had an indigenous community leader speak also, there was such a show of unity, it was a great Australia Day.”

“We were also very happy to thank and acknowledge the Indigenous community for opening up this great land to us so we can all call Australia home.

Christian leaders and congregations from most denominations throughout Australia united today to call on God to intervene for the good of the land – a day of unity and history making.

Save the earth at all costs
The environment as usual has been in the news. What does this all mean about bio-diversity and an environmentally safe planet?
Pagans, witches, and new age spirituality believe that everything is alive, sacred, having a soul. That nature spirits exist giving harmony and balance to the earth. Some believe we can even communicate with them. In the new age Spirituality they worship many gods and goddesses, and believe there's a living energy that permeates everything - a god-energy well known by the term Pantheism. This religion is what many practice today as their own spirituality. “The more you contact the voice of the living earth and evaluate what it says, the easier it will become for you to contact it and trust what it provides” (the Sierra Clubs source book Well body well earth by Mike Samuels M.D and Hal Bennett p.73). Trust mother earth! In the new paganism there is no personal Father God, if he is included, it certainly is not the Bible's view of God.
The New Age Movement has its agenda to restore to Earth the Ancient Occult Mysteries. This will be accomplished through bringing mankind to be in harmony with nature. The new society is emerging and is on the threshold of an evolutionary leap of consciousness. The Luciferic Initiation (through altered states), to reveal to man or woman there own divinity, to manipulate and control a universal energy, and to usher in the New World Order. They see the Earth as a living organism; humanity is billions of cells that make up the global brain. But they see many cells as disharmonious, cancerous and need to be eradicated, to complete the transformation. Traditional ways of thinking are being replaced with altered states of consciousness and a cultural paradigm shift to environment as our savior. To be in harmony with nature is to be in harmony with ourselves.
Dominican priest and founder of the Institute for Culture and Creation, Matthew Fox, noted, “I think frankly that the survival of the Earth today depends upon an earth consciousness, that we move beyond nationalism, for example, to a sense of bio-regionalism,…. That we move beyond dualism's of first world/third world, north/south, communist/socialist/capitalist. It's all, um, it's over with. I think the only future the planet has is a spiritual awakening that's global; global but local. And this is why I think the earth religions are coming forth at this time in history.” (Full Circle: The Women's Spirituality Trilogy)
This new allegiance that wants to do away with borders of nationalism is expressed by Gary Snyder a poet who writes “I pledge allegiance to the soil…/one eco system/in diversity/under the sun-/with joyful interpentration for all.”(Bill Duvall and George session Deep Ecology p.206)
A U.N. document, Agenda 21 was drafted for the purpose of creating “sustainable societies” and saving the earth from environmental catastrophes, has been welcomed by nations around the world. Political, cultural, and media leaders have embraced the concept of a healthy planet.
What could be wrong with preserving our natural resources for the next generation? Why not limit our consumption and reduce energy use? Why not find alternative uses of energy that will not destroy or pollute. We can all share in saving the planet by trading in our cars for bikes, by establishing a global system of equality we can abolish poverty and meet everyone’s needs? Sounds like utopia. Certainly there is nothing wrong with alternate energy sources that can be less hazardous to the environment. But there is a spiritual intent to the environmental movement most are not aware of.
Recently I watched a newscast that stated the ozone protects the planet so we must protect the ozone like we do endangered species. If we don't do something about the ozone soon we will all be burning from the sun's rays. Why is it the ozone layer is the thinnest in the Antarctic where there is no pollution, the thinning should be seen closest to the cities that produce it if in fact CFC’s and other irritants are its source. The air currents keep pollutants on each side of the equator.
What they ignore is nature itself, the earth's orbit around the sun, the gravitational pull of the moon affects tidal forces producing earth movements like earthquakes, triggering volcanoes which cool the earth. Major volcanic eruptions also affect the ozone layer, far more than all our human activity, they have been occurring (according to science) for “millions of years before man appeared.” The earth's magnetic field is also affected by sunspots which can bring storms, sunspot activity produces solar turbulence which heats the earth and recurs every nine to thirteen years. It was nature that produced El Nino, which brought disasters. These are all viewed as mother earth trying to regain balance instead of the ruin it really brings. No one wants to blame Mother Nature for anything, because she sustains us and to say anything bad about her might get her mad. But Nature kills species of animals too, such as the one horn rhino. Nature brings floods in India yet it is man that must come to rescue them, would they come to our rescue?
The fact is nature has no “right” or “wrong” it is amoral, it has no consciousness or personal intelligence. No one can say it is “wrong” for a volcano to produce lava and poisonous gases into the atmosphere since it is only doing what comes “natural” to it. Yet if nature is intelligent as they claim, it's personally causing more problems then man does. If man is a product of nature through evolution, then whatever he does must likewise be natural. As environmentalists fight to stop the extinction of certain species, they end up fighting the natural evolutionary process which has, according to them been eliminating species over millions of years. It is called the survival of the fittest. Humanity would be fulfilling our ultimate evolutionary purpose through survival of the fittest.
How can man be the product of evolutionary forces when there are no ethics or morals in nature? Universal moral laws which are shared by all reflect a higher standard than what is found in nature.
As a new creative tolerance for the earth is accepted, the truth has fallen to the ground trampled over by the masses that look to nature to be their God and their salvation.
Legislation was designated for just such spirituality on April 22, 1990 called Earth Day. One of its promoters was then Senator, now vice president and possibly soon to be president, Al Gore (not anymore). He claims to believe in Christ and the Bible as a Baptist but what does he really believe?
Al Gore believes that a return to goddess-worshipping religions will bring both planetary and personal salvation. In his best-selling book, Earth in the Balance; Ecology and the Human Spirit, 1992, he offers some alarming answers. He identifies THE ROOT PROBLEM OF WESTERN CULTURE as. “We lost our feeling of connectedness to the rest of nature” (page 1)
“We should actively search for ways to promote a new way of thinking about the current relationship between human civilization and the earth” (p. 355). I think we should actively seek the ancient way for man to be in a right relationship with his creator. This has nothing to do with nature and everything to do with the creator of nature.
Gore is clearly against drilling for oil on our own continent believing we are presently in a crises on the environment. Yet like many other environmentalists they have no problem buying oil from other nations that drill and harvest it from their own soil. He believes “every law and institution, every treaty and alliance, every tactic and strategy, every plan and course of action …” every means needs to be used to “halt the destruction of the environment”(p. 274 ). we must take bold and unequivocal action: we must make the rescue of the environment the central organizing principle for civilization.” (Al Gore, Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit 1993, p.269). Its amazing that someone who is so pro-choice for human life is not pro choice for the environment, he instead allows people a choice for babies he would not want to afford for the earth’s environment
HE VIEWS THE EARTH AND ALL ITS PARTS AS SACRED: “ God's covenant, made not only with Noah, but with' all living creatures,' again affirms] the sacredness of creation ... (p.245 “Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit”) “...it may now be necessary to foster a new “environmentalism of the spirit” (p. 242). What 'spirit' is Gore referring to? The GODDESS, nature spirit of the New Age. After addressing the elimination of Goddess worship and religions swing to a masculine orientation. He states “The last vestige of organized goddess worship was eliminated by Christianity . . . . [I]t seems obvious that a better understanding of a religious heritage preceding our own by so many thousands of years could offer us new insights . . . .” (page 260)
Gore quotes Hindu environmentalist, Dr. Karan Singh, who looks to the Hindu dictum: “The Earth is our mother, and we are all her children. . . . Guru Nanak [founder of Sikhism] said, ‘Air is the Vital Force, Water the Progenitor, the Vast Earth the Mother of All.’” (p. 261)
Gore's concern for the world being in danger of being destroyed refers to the new age Catholic theologian, Teillard de Chardin when he said, ‘The fate of mankind , as well as of religion, depends upon the emergence of a new faith in the future.’ Armed with such a faith, we might find it possible to resanctify the earth.” (page 263)
Gore's promotion on the New Environmentalism and Goddess Worship are blatantly clear… “Our religious heritage is based on a single earth goddess who is assumed to be the foundation of all life…all men have a god within. Each man has a god within because creation is God.”
Is God in the trees the sky the water and mankind? Does the tree has any separate or equal intelligence to man. Can it communicate? If I were to go over there with an ax to level it, what would happen? If it had any intelligence it would say stop don’t do this or would pick up its roots and run. Wouldn’t you do that if someone came over to you with an ax! Yet man is reduced to the same level as nature.
Gore states “Native American religions, for instance, offer a rich tapestry of ideas about our relationship to the earth. One of the most moving and frequently quoted explanations was attributed to Chief Seattle in 1855, 'Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all” (p. 259). This is the pantheistic view of the occult, God is not personal nor transcendent, but is subject to the very laws of nature he or she made, depending on your view.
Eagle Man, a modem shaman says of the Native Americans' "Getting, back to nature will be the key to saving the planet" (Ed McGaa, Eagle Man, Rainbow Tribe: Ordinary People Journeying on the Red Road (Harper San Francisco, 1992), 3).
Black Elk, the spiritual leader of the Lakota Indians had said, “Peace comes within the souls of men when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and realize that the center is really everywhere. It is within each of us.” This is the nature religions answer, as well as the new age answer.
Forrest Shaklee who began the Shaklee vitamin company had a spiritual experience with the oneness of nature where he learned to tune in to what he called “the creative intelligence of nature.” This changed his worldview in which he stated, “For I too was product of nature perhaps no better than the old cow on the hillside. Being a product of nature it behooved me to cooperate with nature.” This pantheistic revelation has been experienced by many and it always yields the same results, it makes man equal with all other things.
Carl Jung thought the ground seemed more connected to the things of nature such as animals, trees, meadows and running waters. He felt a close affinity for all of this in his own life. Later Jung admitted that he never realized how pagan this foundation was. He would spend many hours sitting on a large rock behind his house, and at times would have trouble distinguishing if he was the boy sitting on the rock or the rock being sat upon by the boy. In short, he felt an unusual oneness with nature. (Quoted from the New World religion Gary Kah)
Budd Hall and Edmund Sullivan write in Transformative Education and Environmental Action in Ecozoic Era; “We have to completely revise our western understanding of what it is to be an inhabitant of the planet Earth, our human story and the western story; for indeed our new situation reveals the true reality of what we have been doing ...We must pass from a human-centred to an earth-centred sense of reality and value. (Budd Hall and Edmund Sullivan, “Transformative Education and Environmental Action in Ecozoic Era;” Empowerment: Towards Sustainable Development 1995, p.102).
Environmental groups, like the Sierra Club, promote the pagan idea of Gaia, the Earth Goddess. It was the Greeks that called the primordial mother goddess Gaia, which means earth. Many deities of the ancient pagans had both a masculine and feminine side. Ishtar was the queen of heaven who represented fertility originally from Babylon. Rev.17 addresses her as Mystery Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth. The Greeks participated in a religious prostitution that consisted of perverted sexual practices in their temples, especially in Corinth to the Goddess originally from Babylon.
Today spiritual environmentalists view Gaia as a living feminine force of divine power and wisdom that is one with all of nature. It is considered sacred, and all-powerful. Those involved perpetuate the myth that ancient cultures were in perfect harmony with nature, discounting the disasters nature brings without discriminating on both animals and man.
Those who are tuned into this nature religion see thanksgiving feasts as celebrations to thank the earth for her provisions. These are the harvest festivals that were seasonal and by the moon by the ancients. Witches, or Wiccans, believe they derive their spiritual powers by a relationship with the earth, they celebrated them in conjunction with the moon.
While Israel did have feast days that coincided with the harvest calendar, God made it clear that they were to acknowledge Him as their source, not nature, which He created. It was He who gave them the provision, they were not to worship as the pagan nations did around them. What we find is a revival of the same spirituality that the Egyptians practiced before the true God judged the nature gods to set Israel free.
Going backward to the jungle and tribal paganism is not the answer for mankind. Are we now to live in huts to be in tune to nature and closer to the earth? I don’t think paganism holds the answers for mankind in any age past, present or future.
The environmental movement has had quite an impact for public awareness. Have you seen the endangered species souvenir stamp saver cards. They have on a 2-3 inch hard cover the pictures of endangered species with a stamp plastic wrapped. On the back it explains its specie type, where it lives, what it eats. They have the California condor, the Florida Manatee, American Crocodile, the Hawaiian Monk Seal, and even the San Francisco garter snake. But there was an important species that has had more of them killed than any other in a very short amount of time, humans, 42 million of which were killed right here in America. What is more valuable? If there was a decision between a person who was an environmentalist and a seal, would they be willing to give their live to let the seal live? I think very few given this choice would be that irrational.
“We, in the green movement, aspire to a cultural model in which killing a forest will be considered more contemptible and more criminal than the sale of six-year-old children to Asian brothels.” (Carl Amery, German Greens)
New Age leaders have consistently taught that the earth is seriously overpopulated. The Organization Friends of the Earth has stated their position in agreement with others, “an earth population of 6 billion, already overburdened by 4 billion.” (Cumbey, Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow).
Oceanographer Jacques Cousteau was quoted in the UNESCO Courier in November 1991, “The damage people cause to the planet is a function of demographics-it is equal to the degree of development. One American burdens the earth much more than twenty Bangladeshes... This is a terrible thing to say. In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it's just as bad not to say it.” (“The Population Controllers,” New American Magazine, 6/27/94, p. 7)
Prince Philip of Great Britain, leader of World Wildlife Fund gave this solution if he had the ability “If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels.” This is not so offensive a statement for those who adhere to the belief of reincarnation, because there is no death only recycling.
The New Agers have it wrong. It was Noah who gathered the animals into the ark to survive. If it wasn't for him no air breathing animal would have survived. We know after the flood-waters subsided numerous types of animals (and species) died off, but it did not make an ecological disaster. When the humongous reptiles (dinosaurs) died off there was no eco disaster. We may not be as interdependent as they want us to believe.
God gave Man to be the caretaker of this world, we have not done a very good job. However being reduced to a secondary class creature, equal with anything else in nature is not the answer. The new age answer is we are all on the evolutionary ladder spiraling upward to be god. Who knows, maybe another species will beat us there. We have become worth no less or more than any other creature. Who are we to think otherwise after all that’s ego and male domination. The solution of the spiritual environmentalist’s, return to the Goddess.

Man alone was created in the image of God. The solution to humanity's problems is not to get in touch with nature, but in getting in touch with the God who made us. For the new age view there is no distinction between creation and the creator. But this new set of values has been accepted in our society and used to educate the young to be global citizens. Earth-centered spirituality is really disguised socialist values to displace those of Christianity, challenging a transcendent God. The ecological movement will continue, as they reject the Christian worldview that nature is not equal, but instead subservient to man. The evolutionary theories continue to influence the new spirituality, reducing man to being equal to all other things made. By doing this it actually ties our hands to have a responsible and viable solution to the problems that they think we face.
Schools are teaching the solution to the environment comes through the government. Fox News reports this example of the supply of fossil fuels being used up at an alarming rate says one person. Government must save our fossil fuels by passing laws and limiting their use, but consumption figures vary by thousands of years. “Another textbook portrays humans as villains and nature as the victim.” “People are largely responsible for causing the extinction of 10,000 species a year.” Its this kind of hysteria that propels this movement. Senaro says no one knows how many species are disappearing and 26 out of 27 books make a claim similar to this ozone laws will cause millions of people to get skin cancer.” Senaro says there is no scientific proof linking skin cancer to a thinning ozone. Brenda Wolmut teaches high school chemistry in Tuscon, she admits many books over dramatize complex issues. “And so if you present it as crisis they will be more likely to be interested in it” (Oct. 9, 1998).
The environmental movement always shows the catastrophes to give validity to what they are doing when in fact there are very few of these accidents.
NEA influenced 45 million school children with Earth Day curriculum that taught kids that the Earth is alive, she is their Mother and needs to be protected and prayed to. Kids were pitted against industry and development, adults, and parents. The cartoon Captain planet and the planeteer's was a huge success in having children think this way. This was about 5 children from 5 different continents coming together and creating from their imaginations captain planet to go and fight the environmental ills of the world. With their 5 powers combined they summon Captain Planet. The author has stated “The 90’s is the decade of change if we don’t make the decisions in the 90’s we are finished as a species.” The author bought into the do now before we all die propaganda on the movement. The problems are exaggerated to help the children learn that CFCs contribute to the ozone hole. The problem is that the exaggeration becomes the true standard for our children, since no one explains what is accurate. As Captain planet said “my work here is done but yours is just beginning planeteer's and remember the power is yours.” My Kid listened to it and said quite frankly the power is God’s not theirs.
Even the Rev. Billy Graham has been influenced to some extent by the environmental movement. In an interview by Cal Thomas he was asked “In the past you have spoken eloquently and passionately about numbers of issues, he names “communism, sexual promiscuity, racism”… “you have been reluctant to speak out on the top social issue of our time abortion, why? Rev. Graham responded “I think the top social issue of our time may be ecology, I think that’s more dangerous to the future of this planet than the atomic bomb and I’m going to start speaking out on this.” While the environment is important, the scripture tells in the book of Revelation that the earth will be replaced as sin has affected it and it needs to be renewed .
Its not intolerance that is a problem, but over-tolerance. Not just for alternate lifestyles and marriage, but for other species. Who knows where this will all lead.
Recently I had watched a video that I had from over 8 years ago with Satanists Anton Lavey’s daughter and Nickolas Shreck being interviewed on Sally Jesse Raphael. On the other side of the interview was Johanna Michaelson and Dave Hunt who were consistently attacked and interrupted. Shreck’s solution is for the beast to take over, allowing the world to do whatever they please, returning to the rule of the jungle. Only the strong survive a law of nature, while the Bible's solution is to uphold the weak showing mercy. He also stated a need of cleansing the population especially of Christians and Jews. Isn’t that interesting that the Satanist is open and honest about what the new age is teaching. Alice Bailey, and Maitreya the new age Christ are defining what is espoused in Satanism in all its cruel injustice. John Randolph Price's spirit guide Asher spoke to him of World Healing Day on December 31st, 1986, in Price's book, “Practical Spirituality” his guide curiously said the same term “Nature will soon enter her cleansing cycle.” “Those individuals with their lower vibratory rates will be removed during the next two decades.”
Schreck admittedly said it was Satanism that was the ultimate end for the witches and nature worshippers. Satanist high priest, Dr. Michael Aquino of the Church of Set, also describes his brand of Satanism as a more refined and concentrated version of New Age philosophy and practice. That it is closer to the truth than the new age practices.
Rom. 8:19-23: “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”
The Bible tells us the earth is not our home although we are not to abuse it we a not to relinquish our control over to it either. When you besiege a city for a long time, while making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; if you can eat of them, do not cut them down to use in the siege, for the tree of the field is man's food. Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build protection against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued.” (Deut. 20:19-21)
The Lord never did intend for man to use, as he wished, anything from the earth without purpose. We were to rule with wisdom and not abuse the land he gave us to live on. So both views of seeing the earth as sacred and those who care not for it are wrong, each are extreme. We are stewards over what God has given and we should not abuse our authority. However the earth will not always stay in this state, it is wearing down (Ps.102:26), God will make a new heavens and a new earth void of sin and its affects on the human condition and environment. Creation will be liberated from its bondage to decay at the same time man will be transformed into immortal beings that worship and follow the true God. When one rejects the true God who transcends all that He made and rules over it, they will run to what they see, which is the creation.
As Christians OUR citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:19-20), we are now only sojourners on earth. While we should not abuse the earth at the same time we should not have our focus on it either. God's concern is the eternal occupancy of the people. To have any other focus as Christians brings ruin to our theology and practice. Let's remember to work while it still day for the night comes when no man can work and this work consists of people’s eternity. What good does it do to have a beautiful earth, when one passes to the next life only to find oneself separated from the one who created this beautiful world.

The New Age Movement

The term "New Age" seems to be saturating the media these days. One can hardly turn on a talk show without being bombarded with some aspect of the "New Age", be it "channeling", or "holistic health", or "astral travel", etc. The so-called "New Age" is big business. " Time Magazine" of December 7th, l987, reported some very interesting facts, namely that Bantam Books reported a tenfold increase in New Age titles in the past decade. Also that New Age Bookstores have doubled in the past five years to total about 2,500. The "Grammy Awards" have a special prize now for "New Age music."
Shirley MacLaine has written five books on the subject totaling 8 million copies. Her recent 15-city tour brought her an estimated income of 1.5 million, and she plans to open a 300-acre retreat in Colorado. She is quoted in this same "Time Magazine" as saying,
"I want to prove that spirituality is profitable". Also "If you don't see me as God", says MacLaine, blithe as ever, "it's because you don't see yourself as God". (page 68, Time Magazine 12/7/87).
One thing is certain. People are flocking to the New Age Movement, or to various parts of it, looking for answers in this life, and the Christian must be prepared to deal with New Age concepts and understand them, if we are to offer these honest, seeking persons, a better alternative.

DEFINING THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT
It is difficult to place a firm definition on the New Age Movement, because it encompasses so many concepts. It mixes revived Gnosticism and Eastern mysticism with health and well-being treatments, and includes astrology, and even mediumship or channeling. Not all persons believe all aspects of the New Age, but practice some of them. We will therefore briefly list some of the identifying marks of the New Age Movement, and present a Christian, Biblical perspective.

SURFACE "RESPECT FOR ALL RELIGIONS"
Christians will notice right away, how difficult it is to witness to a person who has had various experiences in the New Age. When presenting Christian counsel, the New Ager will often reply, "I'll allow you your truth, and you allow me mine". This "reasoning" flies in the face of the meaning of the word "truth". The Doubleday Dictionary defines "truth" as "conformity to fact or reality".
The Christian will wish to use the Bible as "fact" to establish "truth", while the New Ager will wish to use his "experience(s)" to establish "truth". He may even deny reality altogether. New Agers do not want to hear that anything is necessarily "right" or "wrong", "good" or "evil", as each wants to be god and make his own decisions. In our experience, we have usually had to wait until the New Ager has had a bad "trip" with his seeking, and has succeeded in finding out that he no longer has control. He wants help, and he wants out! Persons out of a Christian background involved in New Age activities are often convicted of violating Bible principles when these are lovingly pointed out to them, with real concern.

NEW AGE VIEW OF GOD
The New Age Movement has the Eastern view of God, namely that "God is All" and "man is god". Since they believe that God is the sum total of all things, then there is no evil, nor any standards to live by, according to their reasoning. They are constantly trying to draw closer to the "godforce" or "energy" by their various techniques, indeed, they hope to enter the Godhead. The Bible view is the exact opposite. We worship a personal God, who is the Creator of all. Romans 1:20-23 says,
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man...."
There is only one scripture in the Bible where humans are told they can become gods, and that was Satan the Devil lying to the gullible and foolish Eve! (Genesis 3:4,5).

NEW AGE VIEW OF THE PERSON OF
JESUS CHRIST
New Age teaching presents Jesus Christ as a "world teacher", an "ascended master", a man with "Christ principle", a "cosmic Christ". The Bible presents Jesus Christ as Almighty God manifest in the flesh. (See John 1:1,14). Quite a difference!
I like to ask New Agers, would Jesus Christ teach truth or error? They admit that He would teach truth. Then the Christian is in a position to present the claims of Jesus Christ as to who He is. We recommend the chapter "Defending the Deity of Jesus Christ to the Cults" in our book "Coping With The Cults".

LOOKING FOR MESSIAH
Most New Agers are expecting Messiah to reveal himself any day now. Most believe he is already alive and living somewhere in the world. Those believing the date 1982 for his revealing already have "egg on their faces" for spending thousands of dollars to take out a full-page ad in major newspapers in major cities worldwide, to announce the arrival of the "Maitreya" or "Messiah". Followers were blamed for the failure, for not creating enough positive "energy", so the date has been moved forward, rather indefinitely at this point.
This view does not surprise Bible students as they have been forewarned in 1 John 4:1-3
"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming and now it is already in the world."
We sincerely believe that New Agers have been deceived into anticipating the arrival of the Antichrist.

NEW AGE "SALVATION BY SELF"
The New Age Movement is extremely humanistic. Since each person believes he is a god and in charge of his own universe, it follows that he can "work out his own salvation", and has no need of a savior. He is therefore continually "turning in" with meditation, and striving to become part of the godforce. While missing the true Jesus Christ of the Bible, he tunes in various "spirit guides", and accepts the experiences they give him as "truth". He imagines he is making progress towards salvation, or self-realization. The Bible, once again, presents the opposite view. Rather than being self-sufficient gods, the Bible teaches that we are humans who have all inherited sin from our common forefather, Adam. Romans 5:12 reads,
"Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned."
We truly cannot save ourselves. We may seek in various experiences for light, but Jesus Christ is the true light. John 1: 9,12,13 reads
"There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. But as many as received Him (Jesus Christ), to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
Those seeking for a better life can find it in the person of Jesus Christ who promises in John 10:10,
"...I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly".

CHANNELING - AN ENLIGHTENING EXPERIENCE
OR A DANGEROUS PRACTICE?
Channeling is a popular new word for an ancient experience, that of allowing oneself to be a spirit medium, and have voices supposedly from the dead speak through that person. The person lapses into a trance and has no remembrance of the experience after. No matter how famous or obscure the medium is, the messages delivered are all similar. Namely, that you are god, there is no sin or punishment, good or evil, and Jesus is not the only son of God. Egos are often inflated by claims that the person was somebody famous in a past life. Great wisdom from ages past is supposedly imparted, but, in fact, is usually vague and disjointed.
The Bible strongly warns against contacting spirits through mediums. Leviticus 19:31 says,
"Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God."
God lovingly protects us from demon spirits (New Age word is "entities"), and anyone foolish enough to dabble in the occult in this manner is asking for, at the very least, demon oppression, and very possibly, demon possession. Deliverance is possible, however in the name of the true Jesus Christ.

TUNING OUT WITH
EASTERN MEDITATION AND MANTRAS
Emptying the mind in an altered state of consciousness and calling on Eastern gods or entities will result in the entities visiting you, to guide you spiritually into new, and often frightening experiences.
Bible meditation is the filling of your mind with the truth of God's word and reflecting on what you have learned. True meditation, done God's way, will protect you from the dangerous, counterfeit meditation, of the New Age movement.
Other similar practices to avoid are regression to supposedly former lives, hypnosis, subliminal, suggestive tapes, soul (astral) travel, rebirthing, sensory isolation (floating tanks), or any other practice designed to alter your consciousness. Do not allow your mind and body to be used by demonic "entities". Heed the warnings in the Bible.

HOLISTIC HEALTH WARNINGS
On the surface, holistic health sounds wonderful. It makes sense to treat the whole person, spirit, soul, and body to ensure good health. However, many questionable practices have crept into the movement to treat the whole person. Often, one finds a medically untrained psychic doing the diagnosis, perhaps with the aid of a "spirit guide" or an "entity" posing as a doctor from a former life.
Often Eastern meditation is prescribed, or a diet lacking in essential nutrition. Medically unproved practices abound, such as Iridology (examining the iris to diagnose ailments all over the body), or Kinesiology (the testing of muscles and body balances), and Homeopathy (the treating of ailments with small amounts of poisons to build up a resistance), or Reflexology (the treating of all bodily ailments by massaging various areas of the feet). Of themselves, these treatments may be of some help, but one should examine carefully the beliefs of the practitioner.
For example, some years ago I went to a Chiropractor for a neck problem. He professed to be a Christian but had Eastern-type posters on his wall, saying things like, "The Force be with you". When questioned closely by me, he admitted that he was trying to align my spine so my "energy flow" would be attuned to the universal energy, and not be impeded. I promptly left. Christians need to inquire carefully beyond surface appearances. and choose treatment that will not violate their Christian values, or open them up to oppression by the forces of darkness.

BELIEF IN REINCARNATION
Many today are turning their attention to practitioners who promise to "regress them to their past lives" and deal with lingering traumas from past lives, so they will feel better today. This practice is based on the Hindu doctrine of reincarnation, that when you die, your soul is reborn in another human. In other words, you recycle after death, no heaven or hell, just go around again!
New Agers claim without one shred of evidence that the teaching of reincarnation was removed from the Bible at the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. What nonsense! The Council of Nicea dealt with the Arian heresy and the Deity of Jesus Christ. Also, if this claim is correct, then how come recent finds of extremely ancient copies of the Biblical scriptures contain no references to reincarnation? I would suggest that New Agers spend some time in their local libraries finding out the truth about this important matter. The Bible, in fact, teaches the opposite of reincarnation. Hebrews 927 plainly states
"It is appointed unto men to die ONCE, and then the judgment".

REINCARNATION "PROVED"
BY ALTERED STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Hypnotism plays a large part in so-called regressions to a former life. Admittedly, some have been regressed, and have given correct details of a former life. Could this be because the demons have knowledge at their disposal to deceive man? The Bible warns in 1 Timothy 4:1,
"But the (Holy) Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons".
If souls merely recycle (to new humans only according to reincarnation), why then is the world's population increasing, if the same number of souls are going round and round. Also, the birth rate exceeds the death rate, so where are these supposedly newly reincarnated souls coming from? Also, shouldn't we see some evidence of our natures improving after so much purifying?
Beware of the misuse of Bible texts to try to prop up these non-biblical teachings. In context, there is not one scripture to support this belief. It is clearly not of God, and should be avoided.

THE LIST GOES ON AND ON
New Agers also involve themselves in astrology, reading crystals, color therapy, dream studies, tarot cards, physic readings, faith healings, physic surgery, ESP, and even UFO's. Not all New Agers participate in all things, but it is certainly a mixed bag, and a mixed group.

IN CONCLUSION
The New Age Movement is not new at all, but is Eastern Mysticism and the occult, blended in with humanism. The Christian should not have part in any aspect of it. It has even crept into the Christian church, with some TV teachers promising you can be "a god", and some "inner healing" seminars dabbling in areas they should be avoiding. Christian Bookstores should take responsibility and rid their shelves of Eastern-influence books masquerading as Christianity.
"Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14).

The Background Of The Christadelpians
The Christadelphians have been with us since about 1848. They rose up after the Mormons, but prior to the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Seventh Day Adventists. A man name John Thomas founded the group. The Disciples of Christ denomination attempted to discipline this man for his "strange doctrines," but the discipline was not accepted by him. John Thomas drew off his own followers under their original name, "The Royal Association of Believers in New York", now known as the "Christadelphians".
John Thomas' book, "Elpis Israel" (Hope of Israel), and his successor's book, "Christendom Astray from the Bible", by Robert Roberts form the basis for the group's beliefs.
View On The Godhead
The Christadelphian publication, "Key to Understanding the Bible", page 13, reads under "The Godhead:"
"God is one, not three. He has revealed Himself as the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ and of all who are related to Him in Faith."
God is therefore believed to be ONLY God the FATHER. Christians do believe there is only one God. However, whereas we agree that the Father is called God, the Son, Jesus Christ, is also called God. Therefore He is likewise a manifestation of the One God of Scripture.
Prophecy calls Jesus God - Matthew 1:23
The Disciples called Jesus God - John 20:25-28
The Father called Jesus God - Hebrews 1:8
Christadelphian View Of Jesus
Again, we quote from "Key to Understanding the Bible", page 14.
"Jesus Christ is not God the Son, but is the Son of God, begotten of the virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit. He was a man of our race, identical in nature with all mankind."
Jesus Christ is therefore presented by the Christadelphians as being the son of God ONLY, having no existence prior to his birth to Mary and being only a man by nature. However, the Bible plainly teaches the preexistence and eternal nature of Jesus Christ. For example, John 1:1 states,
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God." (NAS)
Verse 14 continues, regarding Jesus,
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth." (NAS, c.f. Revelation 19:13)
The Word, Jesus Christ, was plainly there "in the beginning". In fact, He is "before all things" according to Colossians 1:17, which chapter of the Bible portrays Him as Creator of all.
The prophecy in Micah is of special interest. Micah 5:2 reads,
"But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity."
The key word here is "eternity", also translated "everlasting". This is the Hebrew word "olam." This word was never used for any creature, or product of creation. It is ONLY used for GOD. This same Hebrew word is used of the Father in Psalm 90:2,
"...Even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God."
The eternal nature of Jesus Christ is also evident from 1 Timothy 1:17,
"Now to the King ETERNAL, immortal, invisible, THE ONLY GOD, be honor and glory forever and ever, Amen."
Jesus Christ did function on this earth as a man to perfectly redeem us, but this did not detract from His eternal Deity. Colossians 2:9 says of Christ, "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form."
All is all, full is full. Jesus Christ, even in the flesh never ceased to be truly and fully God.
Christadelphian View Of Satan The Devil
Under the heading "Devil" and "Satan" in the Christadelphian publication, "Key to Understanding the Bible", on page 15, we find,
"Devil.....Its general meaning is sin or lawlessness, whether manifested individually or politically. It is also applied to the unlawful lusts and tendencies of human nature which invariably lead to sin. It is not a supernatural being. Satan is a Hebrew word signifying "adversary", "enemy", or "accuser"."
Christadelphians therefore reduce the Devil to our own sinful lusts, and make every adversary in the Bible a "Satan". Both views are in error, as we shall see.
In Zechariah 3:1,2, we see Satan standing before the angel of the Lord, and God Himself speaks to Satan, rebuking him. Was God rebuking His own lustful thoughts? Ridiculous. Likewise Jesus carried on quite a conversation with the person of Satan the Devil in Matthew 4, verses 1 through 11. Jesus, who was perfect, certainly did not have a sinful nature talking to Him! He was speaking to a real personage, Satan the Devil. Jesus went on to call him, the "father of lies" and a "Murderer" in John 8:44. These are titles for a real person, not abstract feelings.
Christadelphians need to know that there is a real person in the world called "Satan the Devil" and he delights in having people deny his existence, for then they never gain the mastery over him.
Christadelphian View Of Salvation
According to the booklet, "Christadelphians" by L. Hutchins, a Christadelphian gains salvation by
Accepting the gospel preached by Jesus Christ and His apostles, as interpreted by Christadelphians.
Being baptized by total immersion.
Obeying the commandments of Christ.
The Bible, on the other hand, promises us salvation by GRACE alone. Ephesians 2:8,9 puts it this way
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, NOT AS A RESULT OF WORKS, that no one should boast."
We as Christians should have good works, but they are a RESULT of our salvation, not a CONDITION for our salvation.
A Parting Thought
No doubt there will be sincere Christadelphians reading this tract, as well as Christians, so I want to add this personal note.
I understand so well how many hours you have given to your faith, always striving to improve, for I was once in a group similar to yours. I was a Jehovah's Witness for 15 years before the Lord set me free. Friends, please do not stumble over salvation by grace alone, because it seems too easy. First off, begin by praying an honest prayer to God, asking Him to reveal the truth to you through the pages of the Bible alone.
Set aside your Christadelphian publications for a time and really seek Jesus Christ through the pages of the Bible, and personally in prayer. You will find out that He is far different from what you have been taught. Nevertheless do not stop seeking until you find Him. After all, if you have the right Jesus Christ, you are right for all eternity, but if you have the wrong Jesus Christ you are wrong for all eternity. Answering a "refutation" of "Is Christadelphianism Christian?"

It is quite a complement when the groups I tackle on CARM attempt to answer the charges of them not being Christian. Following is one of the papers I found on Christadelphian website that attempted to refute my paper titled "Is Christadelphianism Christian?" It is located at http://www.biblebeliefs.net/carm/Page3.htm. I will respond to the "refutation" of my paper. His comments are in brown. Mine are in green.
Christadelphian: The C.A.R.M. has an interesting approach to the condemnation of various cults. A religious system is either 'Christian,' and therefore able to save despite minor errors, or 'non_Christian,' which cannot save because of major errors. The Christadelphians, they say, are non_Christian. The Christadelphian faith cannot save.Why not? The mind behind the C.A.R.M. has taken it upon himself to conjure up the 'Three Essential Doctrines' of Christianity. Any group which denies any one of these doctrines is non-Christian. These three doctrines are: Jesus is God, the physical resurrection, and salvation by grace through faith.
My Response: No cult member considers himself to be false. But, Christianity by definition states Christadelphianism to be false. The Essential Doctrines that I have on my website are not "conjured up" by me or anyone else. These essentials are essentials proclaimed by the Bible. I have merely brought them to peoples' attention. For this Christadelphian author to state that I have conjured them up tells me that he did not read the article where I give ample biblical references establishing their essential nature.
Christadelphian: Now where did the C.A.R.M. get the idea that these are the three essential doctrines of Christianity? Certainly not from the Bible. The Bible teaches that the gospel is 'the things concerning the Kingdom of God and the Name of Jesus Christ' (Acts 8:12).
My Response: Again this person fails to cite the scriptures that I have listed in that article. Therefore, I will briefly list them here:
Jesus is God in flesh
1 John 4:2-3: "This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world."
The above verse needs to be cross referenced with John 1:1,14 (also written by John) where he states that the Word was God and the Word became flesh. In 1 John 4:2-3, John is not simply stating that Jesus existed, for that would be too obvious. Rather, he is dealing with the issue of Jesus’ incarnation.
Likewise, Jesus said in John 8:24: "I said, therefore, to you, that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins."
"I AM" is a phrase God used to describe Himself in Exodus 3:14.
Salvation by Grace
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast" (Eph. 2:8-9, NIV). "You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace" (Gal. 5:4).
The Resurrection of Christ
"And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith" (John 2:19-21), then your faith is useless.
Christadelphian: The C.A.R.M. says that Christadelphians deny the essential doctrine that Jesus is God in flesh. Christadelphians believe that Jesus was made of the same fallen, no_good substance that composes the rest of humanity: sinful flesh. Because of this, they follow a false Jesus, and 'they are then damned' according to the C.A.R.M. However, never did Jesus preach that we have to believe he is God _ it is not an essential doctrine. In fact, it is not a doctrine at all. The Old Testament teaches One God and Father of all, not One God, a Father, a Son and a Holy Spirit. The New Testament must teach the same thing, since God does not change. I am aware that I am arguing without Biblical backup: this is because I do not want to repeat what is said in the Trinity section of this website. If you want to see proof that Jesus was made of sinful flesh, go there.
My Response: The Bible does not teach that Jesus had a sinful nature. It teaches that Jesus was sinless (Col. 2:9 says, "for in Him dwells all the fullness of deity in the bodily form." John 1:1,14 says, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God... and the Word became flesh and dwelt to among us." As far as Jesus not teaching that we needed to believe that He was God, we simply need to look at His own words in John 8:24 where Jesus said, "unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins." Again, Jesus uses the title "I am" in reference to Himself. Of course, many cultists state that Jesus was simply saying that He was the messiah. But, note that in John 8:58, Jesus said, "before Abraham was, I am." At this, the Pharisees picked up stones to kill Him, but Jesus fled. Then in John 10:30-33, they again picked up stones to kill Him and the reason they gave for trying to kill Him was because He being a man made himself out to be God (John 10:33). When Jesus said "I am" He was equating to Himself the very name of God found in Exodus 3:14 where God says to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’"
Christadelphian: The C.A.R.M. also speaks of one doctrine of Christadelphians as 'absolute heresy' and 'demonic doctrine.' This is the doctrine that Jesus Himself had to be saved. Why is this doctrine demonic? Jesus' mother required atonement for giving birth to him (1 Pet. 3:21), a covenant sign of God's work upon the heart (Col. 2:11-12)." These are flowery words with no real meaning: inward reality? A covenant sign of God's work upon the heart? You should note that when you are writing and put a Bible reference in brackets at the end of a sentence, it is supposed to back up what you have said. However, the two references they quoted have nothing to do with inward realities or the heart. What does Col. 2:11-12 say? Speaking of Christ, "In whom ye also are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:" In the context Paul is explaining that the traditions of men such as circumcision are obsolete (v. 8). Writing to the Colossian believers (mostly uncircumcised Gentiles) he tells them that through the circumcision of Christ, they have put off the sins of the flesh, and can be redeemed. What is this 'circumcision of Christ' that is required to put off sin? Read on _ verse 12: "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." When a person is immersed in water, they are figuratively buried and risen with Christ. Through this act of faith, we can obtain resurrection from the dead, since God raised Christ from the dead and we are being 'buried with Christ.'
My Response: Baptism is a very important part of Christianity. All Christians should be baptized. But, baptism is not an essential requirement of salvation. We can see this when we look at the whole of scripture which tells us that we are justified (made righteous) by faith (Rom. 5:1), not faith and something we do (Rom. 4:5); that people are saved before baptism (Acts 10:44-48; that baptism is not part of the gospel which saves (1 Cor. 15:1-4); and that Paul came to preach the gospel and not to baptize (1 Cor. 1:17). Christadelphian: I should also speak of how the C.A.R.M. condemns baptism as the works of the Law. Paul speaks frequently in his epistles about how the works of the Law were not necessary to be saved anymore. The Law had waxed old as a garment; it was a schoolmaster to teach the Jews about the coming Messiah. This is all fine and good. Now look at the C.A.R.M.'s major stretch of reasoning. Rom. 3:20 tells us that "by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in his [God's] sight." This is the Law of Moses, which at this point had become obsolete. But the C.A.R.M. says, in other words, we are not saved by anything we do. Where did that come from? We are not saved by the Law of Moses: we are saved by grace through faith. And as Col. 2:12 told us, baptism is the operation of our faith! Baptism is necessary for salvation.
My Response: I do not want to get into a dissertation on baptismal regeneration and its error. My previous mention of the article "Is Baptism Necessary for Salvation?" is worth reading here.
Christadelphian: C.A.R.M.'s conclusion to this section is that Christadelphianism is a false religion. They are sincere, but "sincerity does not bridge the gap between God and man. Only the blood of the real Jesus does that." I agree, sincerity cannot save us. However, the C.A.R.M. has not shown us that Christadelphianism is a false religion.
My Response: The fact that Christadelphianism denies that Jesus is God in flesh is sufficient to make it a non-Christian cult. Faith is only as good as who you put it in. The Christadelphians have a "savior" with a sinful nature who himself needed to be saved. This sinful version of Jesus cannot save anyone. The true Jesus needed no savior. The Christadelphians do not have the true Jesus and because of that their faith is misplaced and in vain.
Dear reader, do not be deceived by the Christadelphians. Jesus is God in flesh. It is only God who can save us from our sins. We have a perfect and holy High Priest, Jesus. He was sinless and will forever love us and hold us close to Him. But, the Jesus of the Christadelphians, our older brother who had a sin nature, is false. A false Christ cannot save.

Early life
John Thomas was born in London, England in 1805. His father graduated as an Independent preacher in 1812 and one of his congregations was in Chorley, Lancashire. While living there, John Thomas began his medical studies around the age of 16. His family having moved back to London, at the end of two years he went to continue his studies at Guy’s and St. Thomas’s hospitals for a further three years.
During this period of his life his father left the ‘Independents’ and joined the Baptists, caring for a small congregation in Brentford. John Thomas shared his beliefs and wrote articles in the Lancet that appear to indicate a belief in the immortality of the soul.

Emigration to the United States
Like many people of that era, in 1832 his father made the decision to seek fresh opportunities and emigrate to America. So it was that Dr John Thomas having few ties decided to go with his family, agreeing to go on ahead and prepare for the family. He took the opportunity to further his career and accepted an appointment as ship's surgeon on the Marquis of Wellesley which was bound from St. Katherine’s Docks, London to New York.
The ship embarked on May 1, 1832 and immediately sailed into stormy weather that lasted the whole voyage. During one ferocious storm the ship lost the top of the main mast and heavy seas stove in the bulwarks, washing everything moveable off the deck. Now well off course, the ship eventually ran into shallow water and ran aground off the coast of Nova Scotia. The ship was raised up by the waves on twelve successive occasions each time the keel striking the sea bed with such force that both crew and passengers were convinced the ship would break up.
Fearing that his life was about to end, Thomas determined to die with a prayer on his lips, prayed for mercy. He was very conscious of a void in his knowledge about what was to happen to him should he die. Thus he made a vow to dedicate his life, should he be spared, to religious study and to seeking out the truth about the matter of life and death.
Aided by a change in wind direction, the captain’s efforts to turn the ship back out to sea were successful and after one final bone-jarring grounding, the ship floated free. Thomas never forgot his vow and spent the rest of his life devoted to Bible study, determined to understand the true message of the scriptures.

Association with Alexander Campbell
The Marquis of Wellesley docked in New York and Thomas travelled on to Cincinnati, Ohio where he discovered the teachings of Alexander Campbell. After further study he eventually joined the "Reformation Movement" and in October 1832 he was baptised in the Miami Canal. Initially he became a Campbellite evangelist, spending his time travelling around the eastern States of America preaching, until eventually settling down as a preacher in Philadelphia. It was here on the 1st January 1834 that he married Ellen Hunt who became his lifelong companion and constant support throughout the trials of faith that persisted throughout his life.
Dr Thomas also wrote for and was editor of the Apostolic Advocate which first appeared in May 1834. His studies during this period of his life generated the foundation for many of the beliefs he came to espouse as a Christadelphian. However, disagreement over beliefs eventually surfaced between Alexander Campbell and Dr Thomas. Dr Thomas believed that the Bible taught the requirement for candidates to demonstrate knowledge of the scriptures before baptism and that there would be a resurrected when Jesus Christ returned. Because of these differences in belief Dr Thomas was "disfellowshipped" in 1837. However some of the Campbellite congregations agreed with his views and departed with him.
At this time the Millerite or Adventist movement was growing and in 1843 Dr Thomas was introduced to William Miller, the leader of the Millerites. He admired their willingness to question orthodox beliefs and agreed with their belief in the second coming of Christ and the founding of a millennial age upon his return. Dr Thomas continued his studies of the Bible and in 1846 travelled to New York where he gave a series of lectures covering thirty doctrinal subjects that later formed part of his book Elpis Israel (The Hope of Israel).

The birth of the Christadelphian movement
Based upon his new found understanding of the Bible, Thomas was rebaptised in 1847 and the groups of congregations and individuals who shared his beliefs continued to grow. In 1848 the movement became international when he travelled to England in order to preach what he now saw as the true gospel message. Upon his return to America Dr Thomas moved from Richmond to New York City and began to preach there. He made a point of speaking to the Jewish community because Dr Thomas had come to believe that Christianity did not replace the Law of Moses, but rather fulfilled it. He believed that Christians must though faith and baptism become the ‘seed’ of Abraham.
It was at this time that Dr Thomas and those who shared similar beliefs became known as the Royal Association of Believers. This group of believers used the term "ecclesia", a Greek word meaning church, to describe them. Instead of having a system of clergy, all the brethren took equal responsibility on a rota to take on the role of presiding and speaking during their meetings.
When in 1861 the Civil War broke out, Dr Thomas travelled to the South and became concerned that the war had placed believers upon opposing sides. However, the movement did not have an ‘official’ name until 1864. The movement as a whole considered that the war required them to make a stand for what they believed in as conscientious objectors. However, in order to be exempted from military service, it was required that believers had to belong to a recognised religious group that did not agree with participation in war. Thus in 1864, Dr. Thomas coined the name Christadelphian to identify members of the movement. The term Christadelphian comes from Greek and means ‘Brethren in Christ’. It was during the war that Dr Thomas worked on the three volumes of Eureka which discusses the meaning of the Book of Revelation.
On May 5 1868 Dr Thomas returned to England where he travelled extensively giving lecturers about the Gospel message and meeting with Christadelphians in England. During this period of his life he found extensive support and help from Robert Roberts who had been converted during a previous visit to England by Dr Thomas. Following his return to America he made one final tour of the Christadelphian congregations prior to his death on 5th March 1871 in Jersey City. He was buried in Brooklyn, New York.

Summary
The results of his labours were committed to several books one of which, Elpis Israel, sets out many of the fundamental scriptural principles believed by Christadelphians to this day. However the reader needs to note, that no Christadelphian would view Thomas as being anything more than a sincere man who was an avid student of God’s Word.
John Thomas was neither prophet nor a type of messiah. He was neither leader nor director of any movement. He was just a man determined to find out what the Bible really taught and was able to inspire others to read and study the Bible for themselves. Dr John Thomas’ one overriding belief was that it was vital for individuals not to simply accept what they are taught about the Bible, but rather to read, understand and believe the scriptures for themselves.
This example and his work is the legacy that he has left to all true ‘Christadelphians’.

Another Definition of What Is A Cult?

From the beginning of the church we are warned against divisions (Schisms a breaking away which means heresy Rom.16:17-18)
1 Jn.2:19 "they went out from us but they were not of us, if they had been of us , they would have continued with us, but they went out that they might be made known that none of them were of us." John is writing about those who denied Jesus came in the flesh (meaning they did not believe God came as a human and rose bodily). They left the fellowship of believers that were holding to the apostles doctrine. Today many other aberrations just as false have arisen, and given birth to offshoots in the Church.
Sociologist, John Lofland, comments that '"cults are 'little groups' which break off from the conventional consensus and espouse very different views of the real, the possible, and the moral."' (Quoted in Ronald Enroth, "What Is a Cult?" in A Guide to Cults and New Religions 1983, p.14.)
Throughout the old and New Testament we are warned of false teaching and teachers. Here are only a few references. False teachers in Isa.8:2 false prophets in Deut.13 and 18. Jesus warned of false prophets and teachers in Mt.7:15, Mt.24:23-24; Mk.13:6,21-22. we are warned by Paul in 2 Cor. 11:14; Gal.1:8-9; Col.2:8-9; 2 Thess. 2, 1 Tim.1:3-4,4:1-2. By Peter in 1 Pt.5:8-9,2 Pt.2:1-3. By John 1 Jn.2:18-23, 2 Cor. 4:1-5. Just about every book of the Bible mentions a warning of error and falsehood.
There are two ways a cult operates in falsehood. Theologically and sociologically. From belief and practice. Some are theologically dangerous others are sociologically dangerous. Not all cults are harmful to someone’s physical well being, but they are harmful spiritually if they mislead someone in their relationship to God through another gospel. They will all have control or manipulation over people in some fashion. They will hold the person to this particular group or church often with fear convincing them that there is no where else to go, no one else has the truth like they do.
When the term cult is used by the secular world they mean any religious group viewed as strange or what may be considered dangerous. Christians point to major errors in core doctrines for justification in using the word cult. Cults contain deviations from the doctrines of historic orthodox Christianity.
When we hear the word cult we envision people held against their will confined away from society, working with little or no pay, or abused. They are unable to think for themselves having been changed into religious robotic zealots. While these descriptions are possible and have occurred in extreme circumstances they are often unlikely. Someone once said a cult is everyone who disagrees with your belief. This is essentially what the leaders of the these groups will state. If someone does not agree with their particular interpretation of the Bible or of God they are against God. This is their exclusivism at work. The word 'Cult' does have a stigma attached to it and has been thrown around too easily and can be a mislabeling if not understood or explained. So we want to explain what are the common practice's that the majority of Cults share to help you identify them. We need to understand that a cult (or a aberrational group) can be identified into two categories. By theology and or sociological behavior.
There are two categories of cults, non -Christian and Christian cults. The Christian cult claims to have the truth of Christ and salvation but they deny one or more of the core doctrines of the Christian faith. To simplify an identification of a Christian cult it would be noticeable in several categories. Who is Jesus, the way of salvation, what is your final source of authority and how they relate to others. They want to call themselves Christian without adhering to the tenets of the historic "doctrinal " faith. They change the major core teachings to mean something other than they are defined in the Bible and by the history of the church. The cults do not agree with the historic (Biblical) Christian faith.
The Bible does not use the word "cult." However the Bible does address religious errors in teaching and practice. It does not take these teachers lightly and it does not excuse those who teach them. The Bible applies to them words such as "heresy," "heretic," "false teachers," "false prophets," "false apostles, and "false Christ's". Those who teach contrary to the core teachings may say of themselves "we are not a "cult" but this does not change the fact that they are in this category. The Bible reprimands heresy, false teachings, false doctrines, and false prophecy and tells us to refute, reproof, correct, and expose it by defending the truth (Jude 3). This can often take place publicly as they teach their falsehood publicly. Those who claim to be Christian that are found to teach heresy will often be the loudest opponents against those who point out their false teachings. They would want to censure them so they can continue to teach unchallenged. It is for this reason cults do not like be too noticed and will not debate or discuss the issues brought up publicly. for the most part, they will avoid public exposure or scrutiny because they will lose their membership.
Both cult's and a sect adhere to a distinctive doctrine that oftentimes is majoring on the minors. Sect's on the other hand refer to a religious denomination or a group of people that broke from another body they were involved with to form their own. For example there are sects in Islam and Mormonism (like the RLDS). The term sect can at time have similarities to a cult but its identification does not help someone identify how severe a deviation from the original they are. This is especially true with those who claim their Christianity is exclusive only to themselves being the only way as the one true Church.
Definition of a cult
THE ORIGINAL USE OF THE WORD "CULT" AS WELL AS IT'S USE TODAY DERIVES FROM THE LATIN WORD "CULTUS" WHICH MEANS "WORSHIP".
DICTIONARY DEFINITION- A GROUP BOUND TOGETHER IN A INTENSE DEVOTION TO A PERSON, IDEAL OR THING; A SYSTEM OF BELIEFS AND RITUALS THAT ARE BOGUS. In other words they are practicing a false system of spirituality while claiming to be authentic.
In 1912 Ernst Troeltsch in the book social teaching of the Christian church, classified religious groups in three groups: "Church", "sect", and "cult". A cult represented a mystical or spiritual religion to intellectuals and educated classes.
With a more Biblical perspective, in 1938 Jan Van Baalens' "The Chaos of Cults" critiqued Theosophy, Mormonism, Christian Science, and Jehovah's Witnesses as 'Cults.' Because they were aberrant in their teachings while claiming to be Christian.
Christian apologist Robert Bowman defines a cult as A religious group originating as a heretical sect and maintaining fervent commitment to heresy. Adj.: "cultic" (may be used with reference to tendencies as well as full cult status.( Robert Bowman, A Biblical guide to Orthodoxy and heresy.)
Cult's will say they are the way to Christ and Christ Himself is not the way. So they put themselves as a group or their teaching in between man and God. They become mediators between God and man. They do not have the Christian distinctive, but will claim to be Christian in their beliefs and practices. It was Christ himself who Said "I Am the way, the truth the life."
A THEOLOGICAL DEFINITION A THEOLOGICAL DEFINITION OF "CULT" MUST BE BASED ON A STANDARD OF CHRISTIAN ORTHODOXY. USING THE BIBLE'S TEACHING AS A FOCAL POINT. A CULT IS ANY RELIGIOUS GROUP THAT CLAIMS TO BE CHRISTIAN (OR MAY NOT BE) IS DISTINCT AND HAS DOCTRINES AND PRACTICES THAT CONTRADICT THOSE OF THE SCRIPTURES AS INTERPRETED BY ORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY. THOSE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN UPHELD IN HISTORIC CHRISTIANITY .
ORTHODOXY IS REPRESENTED FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE CHURCH, AND IS EXPRESSED IN STATEMENTS SUCH AS THE APOSTLES CREED WHICH ARE DENIED . THEY WILL DENY THE BIBLE AS THE COMPLETE BOOK OF REVELATION AND OUR GUIDE TO KNOWING GOD. THEY WILL DISTORT THE CENTRAL MESSAGE OF THE SCRIPTURES AS CHRIST BEING THE SAVIOR ALONE. THEY WILL DENY HIS DEITY AND DISTORT HIS NATURE. THEY FORM THEIR GROUP AROUND A SINGLE PERSONS INTERPRETATION OF SCRIPTURE, OR CHRIST USUALLY BY A NEW REVELATION. THEY REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM THE LARGER BODY AND OPERATE AUTONOMOUSLY. A CULT IS ORGANIZED HERESY. THEY WILL DISTORT ONE OR MORE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS.
Walter Martin described a cult like this: "as a group of people gathered about a specific persons interpretation of the bible... from a theological view point, the cults contain not only a few major deviations from historic Christianity. They paradoxically, they continue to insist that they are entitled to be classified as Christians." (Kingdom of the cults p.11)
In his book The New Cults, Walter Martin defines a cult as “a group religious in nature which surrounds a leader, or a group which either denies or misinterprets essential biblical doctrines.”
It is not our personal opinion on this site of those who are called a cult or labeled as aberrant. Almost unanimously those that are found in this category are written about in books and on other websites for years. These are held to be such by the majority in the Apologetic- Cult Research community. Many new groups continue to spring up and we will try our best to keep you informed on them and explain why their teachings are not Biblical. However this may not be possible with all the new religious movements on the scene. For this reason it is to ones advantage to become familiar with the heresies in the past so they can be recognized today.

The difference between a sect and a cult
The term sect comes from the Late Latin secta, which means an “organized church body.” That in turn is rooted in the Latin sequi, which means “to follow,” and is used of “way of life,” or “class of persons.” The term sect, can and is sometimes exchanged for the term cult. A Sect can refer to: a religious denomination a group of people that broke from another greater body of religion to form their own. It can be to reform and go back to truth or deviate further from it.
Most offshoots are formed as the result of schism (division; separation). In this case, the term also borrows from the Latin sectus, which means “cut” or “divide.” They are distinguished because of their adherence to their own religious beliefs. An example of a sect would be the Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints who are an offshoot of The Mormons Latter-day Saints. However this is a group that claims they are the original Latter Day Saints.
The term sect can be exchanged for cult but does not carry the weight of severity that most want to get across. Both a cult and a sect adhere to a distinctive doctrine that oftentimes is majoring on the minors. The members have a leader or a groups teachings that are used to interpret the bible. The main difference between the two is that a cult is more exclusive in its demands on its people and their claims as being the only true way to salvation as the one true Church.
Counter-cult (Christian) organizations usually oppose cults for their deviation in doctrinal matters. Their intention is to warn and rescue those who are involved in false teaching and practice. Some false teaching and practices are more serious than others as they are an immediate threat to ones welfare or physical life. Most of these ministries (both religious and secular) provide the service to cult-members and their loved ones information that may help them leave those movements. It is easier to prevent someone from joining a cult than it is to get them out afterwards. So we want to give the other side of the story that they often do not tell. We are not subscribing any enforcement on ones decision. It is a persons own choice what group or religion they will join. What is important before one invests their time and money is to find out what the group really teaches. This information often does not come openly from the group but will be told after one has committed themselves to the teachings.
Legalism
There are some groups that have right doctrine but are steeped in legalism. Legalism are laws that are unscriptural or biblical laws that are no longer to be practiced. They make ones walk heavy and the effect is having them lose their joy. They become toilsome, harsh and inflexible. The Pharisees couldn’t show mercy the heavier matters of the law because of their legalism although they knew the Scriptures well enough. Love and legalism don’t mix, love is flexible willing to yield. Love, grace and peace are a family they bring health and growth to an individual. While extra laws are a burden and often times bring bondage if not exercised by an individuals own free choice, legalism may not affect ones salvation as much as it will affect their spiritual growth. It certainly can affect their relationship to the Lord. churches that are orthodox in doctrine can fall under a pastor or leadership that goes beyond their God given authority and manipulate the congregation or individual members.
What are some of the teachings that cults hold in common?
1. THEY DEIFY MAN
TEACHING THAT MAN MAY BECOME GOD, OR IS A PART OF GOD. MAN NEEDS TO BE A PART OF A CERTAIN GROUP OR CHURCH TO LEARN NEW REVELATION OR KNOWLEDGE TO PROGRESS TO GODHOOD. SOMEONE, USUALLY THE LEADER WILL SAY THEY ARE GOD OR HAS THE CHRIST SPIRIT IN A GREATER WAY. THAT THEY ARE COMMISSIONED OR APPOINTED TO BE THE LEADER BY GOD.
2.THEY HUMANIZE GOD
SOME GROUPS DENY THAT GOD IS ETERNAL. SOME BELIEVE IN MANY GODS, OR THAT ALL IS GOD (PANTHEISM). OTHER GROUPS SUCH AS JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES TEACH THAT GOD'S NATURE OR STATE OF BEING MUST BE UNDERSTOOD AND REASONABLE TO BE TRUE. IN OTHER WORDS, IF FINITE MAN CANNOT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING ABOUT GOD THEN IT IS NOT TRUE. THIS TECHNIQUE SUBTLY ELEVATES MAN'S MENTAL ABILITY TO THAT OF GOD.
3.THEY MINIMIZE OR ELIMINATE SIN
THE BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF SIN IS NOT TAUGHT, OR IS COMPLETELY ELIMINATED BY SOME GROUPS. THIS IS SEEN IN CHRISTIAN SCIENCE, MIND SCIENCE, RELIGIOUS SCIENCE, AND NEW AGE GROUPS. MEANINGS THAT ARE BIBLICAL ARE CHANGED TO THEIR OWN PERSONAL INTERPRETATIONS THAT ARE NOT RELATED TO THE CONTEXT OR ORIGINAL INTENT OF THE AUTHOR..
4.THEY MINIMIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BIBLE
MOST ORGANIZED HERESIES (CULTS) USE "ANOINTED" INFORMATION, BOOKS, MAGAZINES OR SCRIPTURES. THESE ARE BELIEVED TO BE JUST AS OR MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE BIBLE. THEY ARE INDISPENSABLE IN UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE. SOME GROUPS STRONGLY DISCOURAGE THEIR MEMBERS FROM READING THE BIBLE ALONE, AND SOME DO NOT BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD ALONE. OTHERS USE THE BIBLE WITH THEIR OWN UNIQUE INTERPRETATION UNKNOWN EVER IN THE CHURCH HISTORY OR ALIGN THEMSELVES WITH WHAT WAS CONSIDERED HERESY.
5. THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT WAY OF SALVATION
MANY ORGANIZED HERESIES TEACH A "GRACE PLUS WORKS" SALVATION. MANY TEACH THAT MA

VIRTUALLY ALL ORGANIZED HERESIES DENY THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST, THEY TEACH THAT JESUS IS NOT THE TRUE GOD MANIFEST IN HUMAN FORM BUT SOMETHING LESS, SUCH AS A CREATED BEING, AN ANGEL, A PROPHET, AN ASCENDED MASTER OR JUST "a god" (SECONDARY). SOME TEACH WE TOO CAN BE THE VERY SAME AS JESUS. IN THIS WAY THEY CHANGE THE CLEAR TEACHING OF THE BIBLE OF HIM BEING THE UNIQUE (ONLY BEGOTTEN) SON OF GOD.
7. THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT SPIRIT
MOST ORGANIZED HERESIES TEACH THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS NOT GOD BUT AN IMPERSONAL FORCE OR ENERGY THAT EMANATES FROM GOD TO PERFORM CERTAIN FUNCTIONS, MUCH LIKE THE ENERGY FLOWING FROM A BATTERY TO START A CAR. SOME TEACH THAT IT PERMEATES EVERYTHING AND WE CAN BREATHE IT IN. PRACTICES OF SPIRITISM INCLUDING VISITS BY SPIRIT BEINGS ARE COMMON IN THE NEW AGE AND THEY HAVE COUNTERFEIT MIRACLES TO VALIDATE THEMSELVES.
8. THEY BELIEVE THEY ARE THE ONLY TRUE CHURCH
THE ONE MARK OF AN ORGANIZED HERESY THAT IS THE MOST COMMON IS THEIR CLAIM TO BE THE ONLY GROUP OR CHURCH ORDAINED BY GOD. THEY ALONE SPEAK FOR GOD ON EARTH TODAY. GOD DIRECTS ONLY THEIR ORGANIZATION, OR CHURCH. THIS IS DONE EITHER THROUGH A LEADER WHO HAS ALL THE SAY OR A GROUP. IF ANYONE COMES TO YOU CLAIMING THEY REPRESENT THE ONLY TRUE CHURCH OF CHRIST OR GOD, AND DENY THAT ANYONE ELSE OUTSIDE THEMSELVES CAN BE PART, YOU CAN BE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT FROM GOD. ALL CHRISTIAN CHURCHES WILL RECOGNIZE OTHERS THAT HOLD THE SAME CORE TEACHINGS THAT THEY DO, THAT WERE ALWAYS PART OF THE HISTORIC CHRISTIAN FAITH.
THE CORE BELIEFS UNITE ONE IN CHRIST AS THERE IS A CERTAIN CRITERIA FOR BIBLICAL DOCTRINE. THIS HAS BEEN HELD SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE SCRIPTURES WRITTEN BY THE APOSTLES AND TAUGHT BY THE CHURCH.

COMMON CHARACTERISTICS OF HOW THE CULTS OPERATE
For abusive cults, the key word is CONTROL CONTROL CONTROL by Submitting to the Leadership - leaders tend to be the absolute end, looked to as prophets of God, as specially anointed apostles. Or they can be a strong, controlling, manipulative personality who demands submission even if he changes his views or conflicts occur in doctrine or behavior. sometimes they can be looked on as God Himself. Often to obey a leader and their teaching is equal to obeying God.
It can take time for them to gain power over the new convert, but it will eventually be there. Control is usually overwhelming and can cover most aspects of the followers' lives: Dress codes, activities, finances, time, possessions and relationships. They can dictate to the member who to see, what to do, what is the right thing to say, and how to say it. Various degrees of control can be experienced, from subtle manipulation to blatant ordering. They will expect Rigid obedience of the members time and activities - involving their followers in physically and emotionally draining activities leaving little time for privacy and reflection, or questioning their authority. Expecting one to show up when everyone else does, and everything is usually done in groups.
The methods of control which are used is usually FEAR of displeasing God the leader or both. Fear of rejection, punishment, losing ones salvation, missing the rapture, going to hell. Guilt, Fear, intimidation are Weapons used to maintain their loyalty and devotion to the group.
Intimidation and accusation are the most often used. For example, any questioning of authority is treated as rebellion, and not trusting. They suppress questions and conform to the groups behavior. They Discourage Critical or Rational Thought and Questions they will reply with comments like, "Satan is the cause of all doubt; he is keeping you from the Truth," or it will take time to understand the deep things of God. Critical thinking is discouraged being called prideful or sinful or rebellious. No independent thinking is encouraged.
They over simplify answers to life's questions, making everything for all situations as simple as black or white.
COMMAND OVER THE GROUP IN INTIMATE MATTERS: Telling one who to date or who to marry. Decisions are made by the leader as to who, and when your ready (Moonies International churches of Christ). Extremes can be no seeing the opposite sex to promiscuity in sexual relations, (Children of God), group sex (New Age Therapy groups, Some Eastern religious gurus) child sex, adultery, and polygamy (Branch Davidian's, certain Mormon sects, children of God) sex is used as an initiation into the cult (as well as occult and Satanic groups).
Sexual impurity especially among the leaders, can be common and promoted. Doctrinal deception is more than often displayed by moral deception. (Polygamy, spiritual wives, adultery, fornication and sexual sin is acceptable). The leader believes that he is above everyone or is an exception to God's laws so he may not follow his own rules.
GROUP TRUST: Confession Sessions are used to build relationships . Full disclosure of all secret sins, thoughts, temptations, desires are expressed with those you know and may not know to build up your trusting them with your life . These can become a powerful tools to emotionally bond you to the leader or group. They later can be used to manipulate, or blackmail some one if and when they decide to leave.
A DOUBLE STANDARD: There is one standard for the followers and another for the leaders can do almost anything wrong while others will be rebuked and made examples of if they do the same things.
Christ teaches that leaders should be servants of those they lead. Cult leaders exalt themselves, requiring the followers to serve them or the church’s program. Jesus said, "The greatest among you will be your servant" Matthew 23:11. He said of Himself, "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" Matthew 20:28. This is a sure way to see what your involved , since what cults practice is backwards.
TAKES LICENSE WITH GOD'S WORD:. The Scripture is not rightly divided. Private revelations and interpretations are added to the Word, and sometimes substitute it. Passages contradictory to the orthodox beliefs are being twisted and taken out of their context. Strong emphasis is placed upon certain passages making them their thrust in ministry. While other pertinent scriptures on essentials and practice are completely ignored. Bible scholars who give a different interpretation from the cultists' are ignored or ridiculed.
MISPLACED LOYALTY Someone involved in an abusive system finds their of loyalty is nurtured and even demanded. Loyalty for Christ is replaced by an organization, church or leader. Because authority is usually from an individual or a group one is asked if they will be loyal to God confusing the member that to be loyal to a person or group means the same. With the Jehovah's Witnesses with their blind loyalty to whatever the Watchtower says.
ISOLATION: Information control is practiced where members of the group are not allowed or discouraged to have contact with outside family members, other ministries or Christians that could influence them. This is done to prevent information that may expose what is going on internally. They cut off or denigrating outside sources of information, especially if it is critical of the group. One is not allowed to read or converse with those who say these things or was once part of the group and left for whatever circumstances. Ties are severed with former friends and family and the circle becomes tighter as the only people you are exposed are them. one reads only their books and are discouraged or forbidden to read other books especially if one opposes their views.
If evidence is presented that they have had false prophecies or they are used to make money. The focus is shifted members are taught to question the motives or character of the person and ignore the evidence. So the focus is on the others character and not the proof that they have. They will be called emissaries of Satan so that they can’t be trusted with anything they have.
AN "US AGAINST THEM" ATTITUDE AND PHILOSOPHY: Anyone who challenges the cult's doctrine is automatically branded as an enemy which is usually anyone who disagrees. The cultists feel that they are being persecuted unfairly. On the other hand, true Christians accept persecution, knowing that it tests the genuineness of their faith. New members are told Satan will cause friends and family to say bad things about their group and that they should only trust their new family. We should expect to be persecute for the truth we have. It becomes an 'us against them' mentality. clichés are given, such as "Who is more important, God or school?' or "Don't you love God with all your heart, don’t you trust us, do you know of anyone who cares about you more?" "We are the only ones who have the truth," "don’t you want to be found faithful."
FOCUS ON AN IMAGINED ENEMY: The enemy is seen to be the government, the IRS, the Illuminati new world order UFO’s (or other conspirators) the Jews, Blacks (other ethnic groups if they are politically oriented) certain church denominations are considered the enemy. The focus shifts from inside and instead of God's truth and purpose, keeps the adherents busy towards something outside, It also stops them from looking in and really thinking things through.
END-TIME REVELATION: Special insights into the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus Christ are claimed. The book of revelation is mostly used ,among other immediate prophecies. Koresh claimed an exclusive understanding of the "seven seals" in Revelation, and believed that he was the one ordained to open them. Elizabeth C. Prophet of the church universal has prophecies from ascended masters telling about the end times.
MOTIVATIONAL TEACHING: Techniques designed to stimulate emotions, usually employing loud speaking or music with group participation, group dynamics are used to influence responses. Your overwhelmed with smiling faces and handshakes and hugs with unconditional friendship. Those who were newly invited will be asked how they liked it and told how much fun they have and what they have to offer. They will immediately become your best friend and want to know when your coming back.
RULES OF SILENCE: Their are rules which govern churches which are often not stated or written down. Beware if they say the only statement we have is the Bible. Since the rules are not spoken verbally, you don't find out that the rule (s) exist until you've broken one. It is taken for granted that you should know them. Or you taught them after you have joined.
The unspoken rule may come across like this: Do not disagree with the church authorities -- especially the pastor or your spirituality and loyalty will be questioned. Silence becomes a fortress wall of protection, many will shield the pastor's position of power from any scrutiny or challenge. If one questions what is said or the rules they are seen as being against them and God or divisive.
The can’t talk to others rule is probably the most consistent one used. If you speak about the problem to others, YOU JUST BECOME THE PROBLEM. You must become silent and just ignore it or will be asked to leave. Neither can you discuss things with others who left while you are still in the group or it will be considered betrayal.
CONVERSION TECHNIQUES: Conversion into a cult is done by dynamic interactions. They look for those who are new to the town or school. The easiest to involve someone is when they are weak and vulnerable they instantly become a potential recruit. This vulnerability can be enhanced by transitional situations in life such as divorce, depression, abuse, handicapped, a job or career change, moving away from home or leaving college, few friends, an illness, or death of a loved one, new to an area, loneliness, loss of job, or someone backsliding. Those whom have had numerous bad experiences with love in their lives, feel rejected by people and insecure are attracted to cults. These groups make them instantly feel accepted and superior giving them friendship and acceptance. Many people who become discontent and disappointed in their prior church experiences are open to something new, even something radically different.
The tactics used to convert, indoctrinate the members. Some groups attempt a radical and quick conversion with an intensive weekend retreat or week long seminar such as The Forum or Scientology. Others have a more subtle approach which may take weeks or months such as the Jehovah's Witnesses and International churches of Christ. Although all push for something for quicker decisions to join.
REVELATION KNOWLEDGE: Emotions, intuitions, revelations and mystical insights are promoted over the objective word. They become more important than objective conclusions and what has already been revealed in scripture Critical Thinking is discouraged , independent thought can be looked at as selfish, and rational use of intellect as evil.
MYSTICAL ALTERED STATES: The flesh is considered evil the Sprit is good (Gnosticism). Subjective experiences are accepted more quickly than constructive teaching New age uses Repetition of words, Techniques which include relaxation, chanting, hypnosis, meditation, trance states, guided imagery or visualization, deep breathing exercises - all of these bring a person into an altered state, a highly suggestible state. These techniques can cause psychological imbalance. What is relaxation becomes the opposite promoting anxiety.Many cannot handle stilling the mind or visualizing. The affects are not immediately noticed and usually catch up later
LEADERS HAVE A PRIDEFUL UNTEACHABLE SPIRIT: The attitude that "no one can Judge me or tell me what to do" is fostered by pride the leader is in deception and promotes deception to the followers. The leader becomes untouchable by anyone. He is accountable to God only and everyone must obey what he says like it is Gods words. Included in this is the attitude that 'we are always right" from the leadership. When Hobart Freeman began Faith Assembly, loyalty to him and his teachings were to be accepted without question. To question Freeman, a self-acknowledged "prophet of God" was to risk the charge of blasphemy. Many people died including himself from his teaching on healing. This continues today by the word/faith movement and believing for your healing. All false doctrine has pride as its catalyst and arrogance as its practice. A good example of this is the phrase don’t touch the Lords anointed According to John Avanzini and Paul crouch, Dr. Walter Martin (a cult apologist) died because he spoke out against the Word-Faith teachers and their messages. PRIDE OF THE GROUP: We are the only ones who are right. If you are not one of us, then you are destined for hell. Correct doctrine is used by them alone to the exclusion of any others, they alone have the truth so one must join them to be saved. they have an us against them attitude which can be very dangerous.
They appoint new "inside" meanings to ordinary words or the use of an exclusive vocabulary subtly moving a person to want to become a member. A appearance of false Spirituality is given from the language. What was formerly known by a certain phrase or word now has a new meaning behind it.
BRAINWASHING: New inductees are brainwashed increment by increment, until the convert identifies with the Church and its leaders and ties with family society are broken. Many claim no one can be brainwashed if they don’t want to be. But who ever wanted to be unless they were convinced first it is a good thing. So it is disguised as what is right and true. While there are some subtle differences between mind control and brainwashing the results are the same, obedience. A systematic teaching indoctrinates members into the beliefs of the cult. This is a methodical process of seducing and deceiving. A lie is told over and over until it is accepted and believed. A reprogramming of the conscience is done by other members and systematic teachings . Certain techniques used for what is called thought reform and mind conditioning. Members are kept under physical, mental and emotional pressure they can become too fatigued to resist or think for themselves, or they become to busy as they can comply with all the groups activities.
DEVOTION TO CONVERT OTHERS TO THEIR GROUP AND ITS BELIEF SYSTEM: Cults demand a strong commitment from their members. They promise rewards for being faithful to their leaders and organization. EX: one can be kept out of the tribulation if found doing God's work (JW).
Service to the church is understood as service to God. Meetings are mandatory. In the I.C.C., one's meetings will keep them so busy they will no longer have time for their friends and family, job or hobbies. They are replaced with a new family and friends and a new view of life.
The priority, rather than bringing others into a saving relationship with Christ is to have them gain membership. Flattery is used, they can be very are crafty and everything is done with an objective. Instead of plainness, openness and honesty. They hide their real motives and teachings until they know one is ready. When they are convinced that you will do anything for God and their group, it is then that they will disclose the full extent of their teachings and mission.
DISTORTED TITHING OR EXCESSIVE GIVING: Certain members Keep track of your commitment of what your to give. they may have you write down what you can give and keep you to the obligation. More and more money is needed to attain higher degrees of spirituality (word faith, International churches of Christ), or complete submission to God requires one to give up everything to the group or leader for the cause. Give to get back from God, the more you give the more God will give back.
We must be ready to "test the spirits" (1 John 4:1), and to "beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's (Christian) clothing" (Matthew 7:15). The key to discernment is awareness (Hosea 4:6), for how can one beware unless one is first aware. We become aware by first by familiarizing one self with the truth, but also become aware how the enemy distorts the truth to attract and snare us.
ATTEMPTING TO BRING IN THE KINGDOM NOW: It is up to us to change society and government. Force may even be promoted. Distrust and paranoia may empower the Cult as they could feel that they are threatened and subject to attack. This causes them to stockpile food and weapons and take extreme measures to insure protection from their imagined enemies. In Christianity some want to take over the world and Christianize the government and the people so that after it is done Christ will come back.
TOTAL COMMITMENT: is expected of the followers to the leader[s]. Their commitment requires that property and money be given in the hands of the leader[s]. Ones time, talent, and money are all at the disposal of the church or leaders. It is all focused on their mission which is interpreted as Gods. While many do use the great commission as a basic concept they change it to mean something than it actually does.
INDIVIDUALITY IS SACRIFICED FOR THE GROUP: The group's concerns supersede an individual's goals, needs, aspirations, Conformity is the key. The end Justifies the Means - Any action or behavior is justifiable as long as it furthers the group's goals. To lie to others outside the group is ok since they are serving Satan.
INCONSISTENT DISCIPLINED LIFE: very strict rules in some areas and completely loose in others. Will make up extra rules to either forbid things normally done (legalism such as movies male or female swimming) or will allow total freedom to the extreme such as in the family and sex for Jesus. There is no balance but only extremes.
MARTYRDOM COMPLEX: Cultists may be willing to die for what they believe to he true, out of loyalty to the man or God they follow. Even to the point of mass suicide as we have seen with Jim Jones Koresh, Heavens Gate etc. Others such as the Christian Science and Jehovah witnesses convince individuals of suicide by denying medical treatment or blood for their life
CURSES and THREATS: Are put on those who leave the group or oppose them afterwards . They are told their is no where else to go. Threats are made subtly or to their face. Once one is in their is no easy way out. the hardest part is when friends and family are involved. One will often have to give up their friendships and fight for their family.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE IF YOU ARE IN A Cult Group!!
Are you told not to question what is being taught because the leaders are honest and want the best for you so you must trust them. Has someone replaced your own choices in life.
Are you told not to ask questions why anyone left, your to accept the answers the leaders give you such as: they fell into sin, they didn’t receive correction, they weren’t open or they had a bad heart and didn’t want to be disciples
Are you told that you must be with their certain church or group to be saved and not by Jesus Christ.
If you want to leave are you being told their is no other church that practices truth, you will go to hell.
Are you made to feel your failures, that your performance is not up to par for the bibles standard
Are you being rebuked for things such as the way you say hello or how you respond to being asked to do something for a leader or disciple. Do they tell you its a matter of the heart how one complies.
Are they putting down other church’s and building themselves up. Do they sometimes use people as examples of what you are to be doing and others on what you are not to be doing.
Do they bring attention to what they do, and ignoring others that may be doing the same things outside their church.
Do they put down others to make themselves look better, calling themselves righteous and others unrighteous
Do they call those who leave fall away’s and enemies, dogs returning to their own vomit, using the examples of Korah or Judas.
Do they stop you from reading anything negative about themselves calling it spiritual pornography or recommend you not to read it for your own spiritual protection.
Do they recommend for you to be around their people expecting you to be at all the group activities. If not you're spirituality and dedication are questioned.
Do they defend all that they do even though it can be harmful or wrong.
Do they operate by humility or are they arrogant and demand you to obey if you are considering otherwise. Or is it done subtly by manipulating you into obeying by statements such as, real Christians obey their leaders or if you were following Jesus you would see what I’m saying is right. true disciples did not question Jesus.
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF
People telling you how talented you are and saying you can really go places. (flattery goes a long way in cults)
An instant bonding of friendship without your knowing who they are or they really knowing you, they act as your best friend (love bombing still works).
When you ask questions about their history or the group they are vague in their answers or avoid answering them. (not answering or postponing it makes it go away)
Are you required to attend studies, going through the program before you are allowed to be a Christian. (this will attach you to the groups goals)
Are they emphasizing their church and who they are, more than Christ. They teach that one can only be a Christian by joining them. (exclusive spirituality appeals to our pride and works well today)
Cults will always divide the family unit instead of bringing them together. They will make you choose between God and their church. they use scriptures such as Jesus came to bring a sword not peace or one must give up brothers sisters wife and house for the kingdom and be a true follower Children often become the most hurt because of strict rules enforced on them.they lose their childhood and are deeply affected being unable to adjust later on in life.Religious systems that are not balanced can be socially and psychologically disastrous for innocent children. What to do when confronted to join
Say you're not interested and do not put up with their badgering and phone calls.Tell them you want time to think about what they are teaching before you become committed to their group. If they pressure you for attendance or continuing in their studies then you know this is not something good.
If you are already a member, leave while it may be easy because it doesn’t get easier to leave later on.
KNOW THE RIGHTS YOU HAVE
You have every right to ask questions, lots of them in fact. Ask about what other churches they are affiliated with.
What is their history and the people involved and those they look up to for spiritual teaching. What books influenced them or what do they read.
What is their doctrine, is their basic beliefs and philosophy of ministry on paper. If not, why not.
Can you review on paper their revenues, are they open to the people and public. Do they review who gives what to the Church. Are peoples finances monitored?
If others left can you find out why, or is mum the word. Do they allow you to speak to former members. If this is not allowed, this becomes the biggest check in joining quickly. Watch if they become uncomfortable in your asking about their origins or teachings.
Give yourself some time if you're seeking to know God or looking for a church he will give you warnings and lead you. Don’t ignore the warning signs or checks on how they conduct themselves no matter how friendly the people are . Love and emotional attachments are an old ruse to have you accepted without any strings attached. This doesn’t last long. Ask what they do on their spare time .Many times ones talent and creativity is smothered as all their time goes toward the group or church.
Where do all the people in cults come from?
Ron Rhodes writes in his book "The Culting of America", "It is a common myth that unbelievers join Cults." Percentages show that those who join these aberrant groups formerly attended Christian Churches.
Dr. Paul Martin of Wellspring Retreat (where cultists adjust from their harmful experiences) writes, "Twenty-five percent formerly attended evangelical, fundamental churches. Over 40 % had backgrounds in large, more liberal Protestant denominations."
Lately the International Churches of Christ probably have the greatest percentage of Church converts. Because their main goal is to go into the Christian Churches and remove people.
Their are 2 categories of cults one is doctrinally the other is sociologically.
1. Almost all cults deny the Apostles creed which consists of the virgin birth, deity of Christ, his resurrection, his atonement aon the cross nd 2nd coming. They have tendency to pronounce other groups as apostate and they alone have the truth.
3. They devalue or deny the deity of Christ.
4. They have Extra sources of biblical revelation they may use Gods word with something else to interpret it
5. They have salvation by works -either denying God's grace or add performance. It will not always be easy to spot. Mormons say they are saved by grace-this means from death and not the penalty of sin.
6. They will deny a major doctrine. Cult like groups take a minor doctrine and make it a major. Ex: you must speak in tongues to be saved.
The following are basic patterns, or characteristics, found in almost all cults that one can easily identify.
Additions - Cults add to the Word of God by having additional writings they call scripture, or by saying that only the Bible is God's Word but you cannot understand it without their interpretation from their own teachers or books. The Bible is discouraged to be read alone.
Subtraction - Cults subtract from the Person of Jesus by saying he is something less than Eternal Deity. Or they will add their own teacher as deity.
Multiplication - Every false religion has works as part of their system of salvation. They also usually specify what works must be performed at a certain level for acceptance to their group and God.
Mediators- they will always have others involved for ones salvation by others. For the J.W’s it is the 144,000. for the International Churches of Christ its discipleship partners. For Mormons it is to join their church for salvation and use their materials Doctrine and Covenants, Journal of Discourses and the Melchizedek priesthood.
Divisive - Cults have people choose by dividing a person's loyalty. Its God through the leadership by claiming to be the only Spokesman or group for God. They also require obedience to their leadership. They do not tolerate another’s differing opinions and it is looked upon as divisive or of the enemy.

The Jesus of the Cults and religions
Another Jesus
Today's new spirituality does include Jesus, but he is not the Jesus of Scripture. He is another Jesus who is appreciated by mystics and Gnostics alike. He is accepted by the other religions as a great teacher, an enlightened spiritual master, but not the Son of God, God in the flesh, the only Savior from our sins, and only way to the Father. He needs to be something other than the bibles Jesus to be accepted by the masses.
The primary guru of the New Age Movement, Dr. Carl Gustav Jung, taught that the “Christ archetype” could be activated and encountered via active imagination or visualization. People today choose Jesus to be their spirit-guide. As they visualize him, he speaks to them and gives them wisdom and guidance. They claim, “I follow the words of Jesus.”
The Jehovah's Witnesses also have another Jesus, one who is an angel who became a man
The Mormons Jesus is similar in that he is also an angel. A Spirit child of Elohim who is in the class of Spirit. He is the Spirit brother of the Lucifer who became the Devil. That we all were the same in spirit in our preexistence on earth before we embodied. Mormonism (Joseph Smith): “Christ is the firstborn spirit Son in the eternal family, and while yet in pre-existence he advanced and progressed and became like the Father in power and intelligence; that is, he became a God.”“
It has become increasingly important to see that those who claim to be Christian or represent God are presenting to their followers another Jesus. These are only a few references as a guideline of what the Bible teaches.
What the Scripture (the bible) says He will be- “And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6). Jer.23:5-6: “.. I will raise to David a branch of righteousness; ... His name by which He will be called THE LORD (Yahweh) OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” Isa.63:8 God speaking, “so He became their Savior.”
What did Jesus say of himself-John 8:23 And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I AM from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.” “Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM”( John 8:58). Jn.5:18, “He said God was his Father, making himself equal with God. “And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28. John 10:14-16: “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep”, David said in Ps.23 The Lord (God/ Yahweh) is my shepherd. Later in jn.10 Jesus states of His sheep “they follow Me and I give them eternal life.”
What did the disciples teach that he said- ”and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us. John 1:2-3 He was in the beginning with God 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
1 Pt.1:1 “ our God and savior Jesus Christ.” Titus 2:13 Jesus is called “our great God and Savior.” Col 1:16-17: “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”1 Tim.3:16 “God was manifested in the flesh.”
No other person has been opinionated by the religious community, not Buddha, nor Mohammed nor Krishna. Why the various opinions? It’s a life or death matter when it comes to the one called the Son of God. Everyone will need to make a decision on who he is. Unfortunately many deny what He said and the apostles taught of Him.

Islam- Sura 43:59 “Jesus was no more than a mortal whom Allah favored and made an example to the Israelites. They are unbelievers who say God is Messiah, Mary’s son.” Surat al Nisa 4:157-158 “And because of their saying: we slew the messiah Jesus son of Mary. Allahs messenger-they slew him not nor crucified- Sura 43:59
Church Universal and Triumphant-Mark and Elizabeth Prophet “The Christ Self, then, has communication with the Father who in both Principle and Person is the Presence of God, the 1 AM THAT 1 AM, or the 1 AM Presence.” (Mysteries of the Holy Grail Arch angel Gabriel p.217) the Prophets explain, “Jesus was both the actual and symbolical representative of this Christ Self. Jesus was the example. the one who self-realized the Christ Mind and was at one with It at all times. Jesus himself was not the only begotten Son of the Father. According to Muslim tradition, God told Abraham to begin the rite of pilgrimage to Becca (now Mecca). In a rite called tawaf, Arab pilgrims from time immemorial circled the stone counterclockwise seven times and ran seven times between the two promontories in memory of Hagar's seven passages. The historicity of this Abrahamic tradition is difficult to confirm; the first verifiable reference to the Arab people occurs in an inscription of Shalmanezer III dated 853 BC. "The pure Arabs are those who claim to be descended from Joktan or Qahtan, whom the present Arabs regard as their principle founder...The ‘Arabu ‘l-Musta’ribah, the mixed Arabs, claim to be descended from Ishmael.they boast as much as the Jews of being reckoned the children of Abraham. In the Qur’an, "Gen. 21.17-21...are identified with Mecca." (The Concise Encyclopedia of Islam, p. 193). It also states that the Southern Arabs come from Qahtan, not Ishmael (p. 48).

The Arabs’ claim to the land of Israel rest entirely on three false assumptions:
All Arabs are the descendants of Abraham through Ishmael.
Ishmael and his descendants were included in the covenant God made with Abraham.
Since the Abrahamic convenant included the land of Israel, the Arabs have a legitimate claim to it.
Ten Historical Facts that refute these Arab claims:
According to the Torah, when Abraham left Ur of the Chaldees, he went West to what is now called Israel (Gen. 12 ff.). He became a dweller in tents in that land. It was in Israel that God made a covenant with him for the land in which he was living at that time. It was in Israel that he fathered Isaac, Ishmael, and many other sons and daughters. Isaac was the only son of Abraham chosen by God to be the heir of the covenant. Abraham took Isaac to Mt. Moriah to be offered up as a sacrifice to God.
The Torah is contradicted by Qur’an at nearly every point. According to Surah 2:119-121, Abraham and Ishmael did not dwell in tents in Israel but in the city of Mecca in Arabia. Together they rebuilt the Kabah and placed the black stone in the wall. It was Abraham who started the tradition of an annual pilgrimage to Mecca, throwing stones at the devil, etc. Abraham took Ishmael (not Isaac) to nearby Mt. Mina to offer as a sacrifice to God.
Ishmael’s twelve sons were named Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. (Gen. 12:11-16) They intermarried with the local population in North Arabia and produced several nomadic tribes know as the "Ishmaelites."
It was prophesied in the Torah that Ishmael and his family would "live to the East of all his brothers." (Gen. 16:12) "And they settled from Havilah to Shur which is east of Egypt as one goes toward Assyria." (Gen 25:18) This broad area is the desert section East of Egypt in Northern Arabia toward the kingdom of the Assyrians.
The Ishmaelites are mentioned as a distinct tribe in the Assyrian records. They later intermarried with and were absorbed by the Midianites and other local tribes. In Gen. 37:25-28; 39:1, the Ishmaelites are called the Midianites and in Judges 8:22-24 cf. 7:1f, the Midianites are called the Ishmaelites. The identification cannot be made any stronger.
Arabia was already populated by the descendants of Cush and Shem long before Abraham or Ishmael were born (Gen. 10:7). Their cities and temples have been well documented by archeologists.
If all the Arab people descended from Ishmael as Muhammad claimed, where did all the original Arabs go? What happened to them? Who did Ishmael marry if the Arabs did not already exist? If Arabia was unpopulated, who built Mecca? Since he lived there, obviously it existed before he was born. The facts speak for themselves. The Arab people existed before, during, and after Ishmael moved started roaming the wilderness of North Arabia.
The descendants of Ishmael were scattered in Northern Arabia from the wilderness of Shur to the ancient city of Havilah. They were absorbed by the local tribes such as the Midianites (Gen. 37:25-28; 39:1; Judges 8:24). There is no historical or archeological evidence that Ishmael went south to Mecca and became the "Father" of the Arab race. Some modern Arab scholars admit that before Muhammad, Qahtan was said to be the "Father" of the Arab people, not Ishmael.
The Abrahamic Covenant was given only to Isaac and to his descendants. Ishmael and the other sons of Abraham were explicitly excluded by God from having any part of the covenant made with Abraham. (Gen. 18:18-21)
Therefore the descendants of Ishmael and the other sons of Abraham do not have any claim to the land of Israel because they are not included in the covenant God made with Abraham. Only the Jews have any claim to the land of Israel.
The Islamic Claim to Palestine because they are descendants of Ishmael:
Muslims like to claim that Islam gave them the right to claim the land of Israel as their own. This claim rests upon two false assumptions:
All Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael;
Muhammad went to Jerusalem.
Three Historical Facts that refute these Islamic claims:
The first assumption has already been proven false. The Arab people are not all the descendants of Ishmael and hence they are not the heirs of the Patriarchs, the prophets, the Scriptures or the land of Israel.
The claim that Muhammad went to Jerusalem is false. According to the Qur’an and the Hadith, Muhammad had a dream in the middle of the night in which he traveled through the sky, visited seven heavens, met great people like Jesus, and visited the Jerusalem. Since this was only a dream, he was never actually in Jerusalem. The Mosque on the temple site in Jerusalem is a hoax built on the lie that Muhammad stood on the site.
Nowhere in the Qur’an does it state that Ishmael is the progenitor of the Arab race. Since it is not taught in the Qur’an, it cannot be a true Islamic belief.
Conclusion
The Arab people are not the children of Ishmael. Even if they were, they would still have no claim to Israel because Ishmael was excluded by God Himself from having any part in the covenant made with Abraham. Isaac was the only heir of the Abrahamic covenant. Thus the Arabs as a people have no claim to the land of Israel.
The Muslims have no claim to the land of Israel either. Muhammad never went to Jerusalem except in a dream. The only ones with a spiritual and biblical claim to the land of Israel are the descendants of Isaac, the Jews.
