Cult Report:Mormonism

The Mormon Connection....
The articles featured in this section are all written from a Christian perspective and explain the differences between Mormonism and orthodox Christianity.
Check out the "Mormon" links from our "LINK" page and file below for more information from other ministries specializing on Mormonism.
We believe each person involved with, or examining a religious group should have all the facts and know the history of the group you may be involved with. Always remember...............

If you embrace an organized religion without knowing it's history, a stranger is claiming your faith.

A
A Comparison of Mormon Teachings
Many Mormons make the claim to be true "Christians". When you compare their teachings with basic, orthodox Christian doctrines do they agree?
As you compare the claims in this tract you must ask the question ''Is Mormonism Christian or not?''
A Warning to Pastors
Local Mormon leaders are encouraged to befriend Christian pastors, I wonder why?
What they won't tell you when calling at your door.
B
Book of Mormon History
According to the official version of the history of the church, Joseph Smith received his first vision the very first time he prayed audibly in 1820 (Pearl of Great Price - J.S. History [JSH] 1:14). In this vision, he was told that all the churches were wrong (JSH 1:19) and that he should restore the church.

Surprising Similarities Between Roman Catholicism and Mormonism!
Contradictory Mormon Doctrine
We invite all honest hearted Mormons to examine their own "inspired scriptures" and official church doctrine books to see if they can honestly believe them all. Take the time to look up all the following references in the libraries in your stake houses so you can deterime that they are in context and correct.
If the Mormon church is true you have nothing to fear by such an investigation. If on the other hand, this chart has raised doubts and caused you to ask questions, we are here to help you in total confidentiality.
D
Deception:
When you are deceived by someone whom you believed was a Christian or by an Organization claiming to be speaking for God who is at fault. You or the person who deceived you? What does the bible say on the matter?
Do Mormons Really Deny Jesus?
By definition, anyone who professes a false Christ denies the true one. Jesus wants us to recognize him and follow him only. The question is, "Do the Mormons profess the true Jesus Christ or a false one?"
E
Eight Mormon Myths
Can you trust a church for your salvation that is not built on solid facts but on myths.
F
Facts Mormons Won't Tell at Your Door
Why won't the Mormons tell you these things when calling at your door? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons, are well aware that if these facts were known to the convert prior to baptism, they would have very few converts! The Missionaries are well trained to keep most of these facts from their potential converts.
Facts or Feelings
Are they true or false? Our initial decision about the Book of Mormon is usually based on our preconditioned feelings. Everyone has feelings, and all people who disagree have sincere feelings. Obviously, feelings alone can't give us a reliable answer. We must check the facts to be absolutely sure our answer is correct.
Faith & Works for Salvation?
What (work) must I do to be saved? Cult groups and Christians alike often wonder how much "work" is needed to be counted as righteous before God. They often ask us this question.
Groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses with their endless meetings, door to door ministry, placing their magazines and counting meticulously all the time they spend in these pursuits and efforts, believe that somehow God will approve of their efforts and reward them. They can never be certain that they have "done enough" and always feel driven to do more.
Mormons, (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) likewise have their "works"--temple ceremonies, wearing special garments, avoiding certain foods or drinks, tithing, temple worthiness pursuits, researching and being baptized in proxy for their ancestors and others, and missionary stints for their young people. They believe these efforts will bring God's approval and a higher state of salvation. Their works are ongoing as well right up to death.

I Testify that the Book of Mormon is True
"I Testify to You That I Know the Mormon Church is True... Because We are the Only Church that has 12 Living Apostles."
Is Mormonism Christian
This questionnaire is designed both to inform both Mormons and non- Mormons about the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as the Mormon Church. As you compare your answers to the questions with the answers that follow please bear in mind this question.

K
Kings & Priests, YES, Gods Never!
Can a man become "a god" ? "Yes", reply the Mormons, (The Church of Latter Day Saints), in company with the Eastern Mystical Religions, Scientologists, the Humanists, the Occult, the Gurus and now sadly also some misled Word-Faith teachers! We wish to give a biblical reply to all of these groups, especially the Mormons, carefully considering the scriptures in their context.

My Testimony, Jesus Set Me Free!
My experience and involvment with the Mormon Church and how I came free of the bondage. My testimony is the most important thing I can share with you. I hope you will take a few minutes to read it. Let me know if you have any questions or comments after reading it. Al Roy
Mormonism's Salvation by Grace or by Eternal Marriage and Sex?
This is not an idle or frivolous question. It is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) claim that it has the true restored Christian faith and that it is "the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which ... the Lord is well pleased. . . ." ( It believes that all other churches are in a state of total apostasy.
Mormon Mathamatics
When asked why Mormon missionaries recruit Christians. Mormon prophet Gordon B. Hinkley seemed to coin a clever phrase which Mormons now quote frequently: "Bring us what you have and we will add to it!"
Suppose we take the Mormon prophet's offer and bring him "what we have", and then examine what Mormonism could possibly "add to it" for our benefit? The following is a very plausible scenario. It would go like this: ............
Mormon Authority
One of the publications that one might receive if inquiring about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a book titled GOSPEL PRINCIPLES.
This book stresses the importance of the Priesthood to the Mormon Church. During our many discussions with the Mormon Missionaries the topic has sooner or later turned to the question of authority............
Mormon Gods
A comparison of the God of the bible and the gods of the Mormons.
Mormon Quotes
Where did they say that? An excellent source tor many of the strange quotes on doctrine etc presented by the Mormon Church over the years.

Pray about the Book of Mormom
One day at work, someone told me that I really needed to know for sure if the Book of Mormon is true or not. He challenged me to read and pray about it (Moroni 10:4-5). As I considered his challenge, I realized that he was right. I really did need to know for sure if the Book of Mormon was true or false. If it is false, no one should be one. If it is true, everyone should be one because it is from the true God. Therefore, I would need to be a Mormon.
R
Religion or Salvation? Which have You?
Acts 4:12. "Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men. whereby we must be saved."
At certain seasons of the year, we find many religious celebrations being conducted. We find that the natural man wants to be religious and at times will do many things thinking that he is performing an act of worship unto God. But the Word of God teaches that religion is not salvation! The Word of God teaches that you ran be religious and miss heaven!
Reorganized Latter Day Saints
When trying to unravel the true from the false with regards the teachings of Joseph Smith Jr., the Seer, and author of the Book of Mormon, and most of the Doctrines and Covenants one runs into the problem of objectivity. The LDS and the RLDS, a later splinter group, disagree on many points, such as the exact teachings of Joseph Smith Jr. and who he chose as successor to himself. Joseph Smith Jr. allegedly found a set of gold plates under the guidance of the angel Moroni. With the records were a pair of spectacles called The Urim and the Thumim which enabled Joseph to translate these plates into the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith, and his closest followers then founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Angel Moroni
Who is this 'angel' that Mormons have put so much trust in? Fixed, Fallen or Fiction? It will never fly....
For those today who are involved with the Mormon Church (LDS) and other Mormon break off groups the testimony of this "angel" is a very important part of their faith.
If his testimony is not accurate then it leaves in question the foundation of Mormonism. Lets examine who "Moroni" is according to official Mormon publications.
Total Apostasy
The Mormon Church claims that Christ's authority vanished from the earth some time after His apostles died. The church calls this a total apostasy because they claim that there was not one person left who could act with the authority of God. This provides a legitimacy for Joseph Smith to "restore" the true gospel once again to the earth. Looking at Mormon scriptures, we will study this topic.
The Mormon Jesus compared with the Jesus of the Bible
Mormons use Christian terminology but give things different meanings. The most serious problem is what do they do with Jesus. Is the Mormon Jesus the Jesus of the Bible. See for yourself.
The Mormon Pagent
The Manti "Mormon Miracle" Pageant has been a highly-acclaimed production for over a quarter of a century. However, the audience is not told that significant portions of the pageant are not historically or doctrinally accurate. In the interest of discovering the whole truth, some of these inaccuracies are described below:
The Book of Mormon Most Correct Book
My Mormon friends shared their testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was God's true church in many ways. They spoke of the blessings of the temple and having their families together forever. They pointed out similarities of the Mormon church to the New Testament church, such as not having paid preachers and the emphasis on every member spreading the gospel. They rejoiced in receiving new revelations from God through modern-day, living prophets. But, most especially, they emphasized that "We have the fullness of the gospel," contained in the Book of Mormon.
Testimonies of Three Witnesses
In the front of every Book of Mormon are the "testimonies" of three witnesses which is reproduced below. Following is further revelations by these same men and comments by leaders of the Mormon church. Documentation of these comments can be found in the publications listed at the end of this article.
The Book of Mormon Challenge.
Lets take them up on their challenge!
Many times Mormons will ask you "How could a teenage old boy write a book as complicated as the Book of Mormon on his own? Would not God have to give him the inspiration and help him somehow? Some in the Mormon church have challenged critics to prove it wrong and if it is not from God how was it written.
U
Unanswered Questions about the BoM.
We are taught that the Book of Mormon is the "most correct book" and that it contains the truth, the Word of God and the fullness of the gospel (D& C 19: 26, 20:9, 27: 5, 42: 12 & 135:3).
Exactly where in the Book of Mormon are the following doctrines or concerts taught:God has a body of flesh and bones. God is an exalted man. God is a product of eternal progression. The plurality of Gods. God "organized" the world rather than "creating" it. There is no eternal hell and punishment. Men can become gods. "Intelligences" are eternal. Pre-existing spirits of Man. Marriage for eternity. Polygamy is not an abomination in the sight of God. Three degrees of glory. A "mother" in heaven.
W
Which Religion is True?
Life: Can You Pass the Test? Discernment is the ability to tell right from wrong. Today, many people say that "God wouldn't let good people go to hell." Many think that God will grade our lives on a curve; like tests in school, we'll do okay as long as we have more right than wrong. But, God grades us from a totally different perspective: 100% to Pass, any less you Fail. We need to use discernment to distinguish the right answers from the rest. The essentials of Biblical Christianity are summarized in life's two most important questions:
1. Who is the Real God? 2. How can we be saved?
Why Believe the Book of Mormon?
Joseph Smith Didn't Believe the Book of Mormon... So Why Should Anyone Else?
In 1844 Joseph Smith declared that the Book of Mormon was "the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than by any other book" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 194, and History of the Church, 4:461).
One would think that the Prophet would found his church upon the teachings of this "keystone" book. Let's see if he did.
Ask yourself the following twenty questions and try to chapter-and-verse them the Book of Mormon.
What's Wrong With Mormonism?
(Among the answers to problems with Mormonism I present the following --- about one of the most distinguished Mormons--- and responded to by an outstanding former professor at BYU and the University of Utah).
Among the problems that I see with Mormonism is the fact that intelligent, experienced qualified people (often even professors at BYU) now fired from their positions and excommunicated from their church, still hang onto its claims.
They question the claims for the Book of Mormon that it is historically true. Surely they realize that archaeologically, geographically and historically it fails every test-- but though they do not get along with the Apostles and Prophets, they still want to be Mormons.
If the claims for the Book of Mormon are not true then Joseph Smith was an outright fraud.
How can sincere, intelligent Mormons continue to argue on behalf of a "Mother God," or other distinctly Mormon teachings?
